Which IIM has no sectional cutoff in CAT?

The Indian Institute of Management, Rohtak is the only institute among all IIMs that does not have any sectional cut-off for the CAT 2025 exam . You have to only clear the overall CAT cut off 2025 to be shortlisted for the additional rounds. In most other IIMs, overall and sectional cut-offs in VARC, DILR and Quantitative Aptitude are used to select aspirants for admission. IIM Rohtak , therefore, gives the benefit of a fair chance to be accepted by the institution to those applicants who score highly on the overall score but have lower scores on the sections.

Advantages of Enrolling in Colleges with No Sectional Cutoff

Check the advantages of MBA colleges with no sectional cutoffs below:

  • Holistic Admissions: Applicants are evaluated based almost entirely on their overall percentile to enable individuals who perform highly in all other areas but have a poor area to still be considered in the best B-schools.

  • Reduced Stress and Flexibility: Aspirants do not have the stress of the sections balancing out each other and can concentrate their effort on their strong areas, and they acquire other competencies; this leads to a more balanced and strategic preparation process.

  • Diverse Student Profiles: These colleges promote inclusivity and diversity within their batches; students with diverse academic/professional experiences and specialised skills stand a higher chance of being accommodated, resulting in a vibrant campus life.

  • Fairer Evaluation: There would be no fixed sectional cutoffs, and admissions can be more adaptable to changing trends in the industry and can end up favouring candidates with different or non-standard skills.

  • Encourages Comprehensive Skill Development: Applicants are able to effectively present their strengths, encourage critical thinking and model their preparation to the real-world business needs instead of simply passing through strictly set criteria.

To sum up, although sectional cutoffs continue to remain a major issue facing most applicants to the CAT, various top IIMs and other premier B-schools do provide respite by shortlisting on overall CAT percentile. IIM Rohtak stands as the only IIM without sectional cutoffs, ensuring that candidates with strong overall scores are not held back by weaker sections. Moreover, the above premier institutes, such as FMS Delhi, IMI Delhi, XIMB Bhubaneswar, GIM Goa, TAPMI Manipal and DoMS IIT Madras, open their campuses to bright students who could be weak in one area and create a more inclusive and diverse academic setting. With an emphasis on the general performance and taking a comprehensive assessment, these colleges allow more aspirants to follow their management ambitions and develop dynamic student groups that contribute to the classroom experiences and the campus life.
