History, Affiliations & Rankings

Founded by one of Australia’s most significant explorers Charles Napier Sturt, Charles Sturt University dates back to 1895 when the Bathurst Experimental Farm was set up. It was formally incorporated on July 19, 1989 under the Charles Sturt University Act 1989. With a history of excellence in teaching and research spanning over 100 years, the university is recognised at the university, national and international levels. The Department of Education, Skills and Employment Higher Education Statistics named the university as Australia’s online university of choice. In addition, the QILT Graduate Outcomes Survey 2020 awarded the university a 5-star rating for graduate salaries.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

CSU is a multi-campus university located in some of Australia’s fastest growing regional cities including Albury-Wodonga, Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange, Port Macquarie and Wagga Wagga. It also has specialist campuses in Canberra, Goulburn and Parramatta and study centres in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Wangaratta. Facilities at its large campuses such as state-of-the-art scientific and computer laboratories,     television studios, broadcasting studios, a simulated hospital, and more set it apart from universities, letting students be industry-ready from the very first year of study. CSU comprises a number of schools and centres for a variety of areas of study and research under three Faculties including Arts and Education, Business, Justice & Behavioural Sciences, and Science.

Covid-19 Response

Charles Sturt University is continuously keeping track of the Covid-19 outbreak in the community and making necessary changes to not let it have a negative impact on study experience. Here are the latest updates as of April 2021:

  • The university is staying up-to-date with the government advice and directions and implementing strict health and safety measures.

  • Acting on its safe return to campus plan for Session 1, 20211.

  • Although on-campus lectures are being delivered, students may have to blend on-campus and online study.

  • Each student should check in through their mobile before entering the campus.

  • The New South Wales government is sponsoring up to 20 weeks of free accommodation for international students who have been impacted by the pandemic.

  • Students who are not able to get to campus because of border closures will be supported by the university. They must, however, get in touch with their course team.

  • The Academic Skills Adviser team at the university is supporting students with online learning and online exams throughout COVID-19.

  • While the university has postponed graduation ceremonies due to COVID-19, eligible students will still graduate.

  • Students must ensure that their enrolment is up-to-date.

International Student Support Scholarship

This scholarship recognises international students whose study plans have been impacted by COVID-19 border closures. The scholarship provides a 30% fee discount for the first two sessions of study: July 2020 & February 2021, or February 2021 & July 2021.

Eligibility:

In order to apply for this scholarship, applicants must have to meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a commencing March 2021 student.

  • Should study in internal mode at Albury-Wodonga, Bathurst, Orange, Port Macquarie and Wagga Wagga.

Value: 30% fee discount for first two sessions.

How to Apply: No separate application is required. Applicants will be automatically considered for this scholarship.

Charles Sturt Campus Services Financial Assistance Scholarships

Charles Sturt Campus Services (CSCS) is a controlled entity of Charles Sturt University that specialises in university services such as cleaning, regional courier services, and more. 

Eligibility:

In order to apply for this scholarship, applicants must have to meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a commencing or continuing student.

  • Must be studying on-campus at Albury-Wodonga; Bathurst; Dubbo; Orange; Port Macquarie; or Wagga Wagga.

  • Must be enrolled in any undergraduate course offered full-time.

  • Those facing financial hardship should fill out the hardship section of the online application.

  • Must have a sound academic record.

Value: $5,000 towards Residence Life

Charles Sturt Foundation Paramedics Scholarship

Offered by the Charles Sturt University Foundation Trust, the scholarship is among over 200 other scholarships offered to students across campuses.

Eligibility:

In order to apply for this scholarship, applicants must have to meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a commencing or continuing student.

  • Must be studying on- or off-campus at Bathurst; or Port Macquarie.

  • Must be enrolled in Bachelor of Paramedicine.

  • Must have a sound academic record, community/regional involvement and career goals. 

Value: $3,000 one-off payment

Charles Sturt University Postgraduate Psychology Scholarship

These scholarships are offered only to those who are studying under the School of Psychology.

Eligibility: 

In order to apply for this scholarship, applicants must have to meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a commencing or continuing student.

  • Must be studying on-, off-campus or in a blended form at Bathurst; or Port Macquarie.

  • Must be enrolled in Postgraduate Diploma of Psychology.

  • Must have a sound academic record. 

Value: $2,750 one-off payment

Charles Sturt University Sports Council Scholarship

This is a one-time scholarship offered to CSU students who have a background in sports.

Eligibility: 

In order to apply for this scholarship, applicants must have to meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a continuing student.

  • Must be studying on-, off-campus or in a blended form at Bathurst.

  • Must be studying in the second, third or fourth year of the course.

  • Must provide evidence of identified level in sport and commitment or participation in university sport or sport clubs. 

  • Preference will be given to those who are highly engaged in university sport.

Value: $2,000 one-off payment

CSU Foundation Assistance Scholarship

Charles Sturt University Foundation offers this scholarship worth $1,000 to $10,000 to eligible students.

Eligibility: 

In order to apply for this scholarship, applicants must have to meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a continuing or commencing student.

  • Must be studying on-, off-campus or in a blended form at Albury-Wodonga; Bathurst; Dubbo; Orange; Port Macquarie; or Wagga Wagga.

  • Must be studying a Bachelor’s degree in the schools of dentistry and health sciences, policing studies, exercise science, sports and health, humanities and social sciences or community health.

  • Preference will be given to those who are in need of financial support.

Value: $5,000 one-off payment

CSU give - Work Placement Scholarship

The CSU Give Scholarship is funded by the staff of CSU.

Eligibility:

In order to apply for this scholarship, applicants must have to meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a continuing student.

  • Must be studying on-, off-campus or in a blended form at Albury-Wodonga; Bathurst; Dubbo; Orange; Port Macquarie; or Wagga Wagga.

  • Must be studying in the second, third, fourth or fifth year of a course based work placement.

  • Preference will be given to those who are in need of financial support and those who are completing a work placement in a rural or regional area with community benefit.

  • Must demonstrate a commitment/involvement in the CSU student community

Value: $3,000 one-off payment

Dr John Reid Scholarship

The scholarship is offered via the CSU Foundation Trust in support of the university and its students.

Eligibility:

In order to apply for this scholarship, applicants must have to meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a continuing or commencing student.

  • Must be studying on-, off-campus or in a blended form at Bathurst.

  • Must be studying in any year of the courses of Bachelor of Accounting, Bachelor of Business Studies, or Bachelor of Business (with specialisations).

  • Must have a sound academic record with a GPA of 4.0 or above/ community or regional involvement/goals and motivation.

Value: $3,000 one-off payment
