It was only in 1992 when the funding requirements of the university were resolved and charter was granted to the institution of being a degree granting university. As of today, it has its own affiliated colleges as Algonquin College, Continental College, Lambton College and St. Clair College. In case of academic affiliations, the institution is associated with AUCC, IAU, COU, CVU, Fields Institute, CBIE and CUP.
