Overview

History, Affiliations & Rankings 

Red River College was founded in 1938 as an Industrial Vocational Education Centre to train students and help them acquire the skills needed in various trades like construction, nursing, business, engineering, aerospace, technology etc. The college was renamed several times since. However, in 1963, the college was named as the Manitoba Institute of Technology (MIT) with the establishment of the Notre Dame campus and finally, in 1998 it was named Red River College. Today, the Red River College (RRC) is the largest institute for applied learning and research in Manitoba. The RCC is a multiple campus college and its main campus is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. In 2018, the Research Infosource Inc. ranked the Red River College as one of the top 10 research colleges in Canada, in the Top 50 Research Colleges list.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The Red River College has a total of eight campuses across Manitoba, Canada. The three main campuses are located in Winnipeg while the  other campuses are located in different rural communities. All campuses have been established with state of the art facilities and well-designed infrastructure. RCC offers more than 200 full-time and part-time courses while also offering a variety of diploma and certificate courses and programmes available in an in-person and online format, delivered by highly experienced faculty members in each specific field. Students aspiring to pursue higher education can choose from a variety of courses in the fields of Business, Creative Arts, Computer Sciences and IT, Health Sciences, Hospitality, Engineering and Education, among many other fields. The Red River College focuses on training students to become leaders and prepare them to overcome the challenging situations faced in the workplace market and encourage them to contribute to society.

Accomplishments & Alumni 

Besides maintaining its world-renowned quality and standard academic programmes, RCC is also involved in applied research and innovative work that supports small and medium-sized businesses in various sectors like manufacturing, technology, aerospace, culinary, green energy etc. They also connect students with industry experts in different fields for relevant industry-oriented training required to meet the requirements of employers. The Alumni Community of RCC is a network of entrepreneurs, innovators and contributors who can be found around the world contributing to industries and society alike. RCC takes pride in the success stories of its alumni, many of whom have created a benchmark for career success. RCC not only recognises its alumni but also provides them various support and services like access to Employment Services, memberships and discounts on various services, funds etc.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

The Red River College is a globally recognised higher education institution that is continuously expanding its educational services to offer quality education to as many students from around the world, as possible. The Language Training Centre of RCC, located in downtown Winnipeg, enrols more than 1,000 new students each year and has expanded its services at Arborg, Steinbach and Thompson. Every year, RRC welcomes more than  22,000 students among which 1,400 are international students hailing from 60 different countries. Students are enrolled in courses offered at the college campuses and partnered post-secondary institutions in Japan, India and China. The graduate satisfaction and employment opportunities of RCC are quite remarkable. As per the 2016/2017 data, 94% of graduates of RCC find jobs after graduation and 98% of them choose to stay and work in Manitoba.

Entrepreneurial Spirit Global Giving Award for International Students

Entrepreneurial Spirit Global Giving Award is awarded by the Centre for International Education and Global Partnerships department at Red River College. It is awarded on an annual basis to international students who are enrolled in one of the following courses at the RRC and intent to start a business in Manitoba: 

  • Business Administration

  • Business Information Technology

  • Business Technology Management 

  • Social Innovation and Community Development 

The award is available till 2024. 

Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be enrolled in a full-time course at Red River College.

  • The applicant must be an international student.

  • The applicant must have graduated within the last twelve months before applying for a scholarship.

  • The applicant must have a business plan.

Application Process

General RRC application required to be considered for Entrepreneurial Spirit Global Giving Award

Application Deadline: October 15, annually.

Value: One $1000 award

RRC Students' Association International Student Scholarship

RRC Students' Association International Student Scholarship is offered to international students who are enrolled in a post-secondary Red River College programme on a full-time basis. The minimum requirement to receive the scholarship is as follows:

  • The scholarship is awarded to students who have attained the highest GPA in the first term at RRC.

  • The applicant must have attained at least a 4.00 GPA after the first term.

  • The applicant must be an international student.

Application Process 

General RRC application required to be considered for RRC Students' Association International Student Scholarship.

The information mentioned in the one-page statement of the application is considered to select the recipient.

Application Deadline: January 1 

The student must apply while enrolled in the first year of studies at Red River College (RRC). The exception is for students who have not completed the first term by January 15. 

Value:  Four scholarships of $500 each 

Scotiabank International Student Scholarship

Scotiabank International Student Scholarship is funded by Scotiabank for international students who are enrolled in diploma programmes at Red River College (RRC).  The scholarship is awarded to international students who have achieved the highest cumulative GPA after their first years of study.

Application Process 

General RRC application required to be considered for Scotiabank International Student Scholarship. The applicant must attach a copy of the first year mark statement with the scholarship application.

Application Deadline: September 15

Value: Minimum $1000 

Applied Commerce & Management Education International Student Award

Applied Commerce & Management Education International Student Award is available for students who are graduating international students of RRC. Every year, two awards are presented to international students under this category. One award is granted to a student who is enrolled in a Business Administration course and another to a student who has graduated from Applied Accounting or Commerce, Industry Sales and Marketing course at RRC. 

Selection Process 

Applied Commerce & Management Education International Student Award selection is automatic. The candidate must have an outstanding academic achievement to be considered for the scholarship.

Global Giving Award for Social Innovation and Community Development

The Global Giving Award for Social Innovation and Community Development is awarded by the  Centre for International Education and Global Partnerships at Red River College (RRC). The candidate who receives this scholarship must be enrolled as a full-time student in the Social Innovation and Community Development diploma programme at RRC and must have also achieved the highest GPA at the end of the programme's first year.

Selection Process 

Automatic Selection presented annually 

Value

$1000. The fund is included in the programme fee in the second year of the programme. 
 

Yuri Cesar Memorial Award for Business Administration International Students

Yuri Cesar Memorial Award is offered to assist international students entering in the second year of studies for the Business Administration Programme at Red River College (RRC). 

The candidate must be highly motivated by education and must not fear experiencing change by making Canada their new home and RRC their knowledge hub. Additionally, the candidate must have an outstanding academic achievement to be considered for a scholarship. 

Application Process 

Interested candidates must submit a general application form along with a statement stating their financial status and outlining their family.
