Offering a variety of scholarships for students from different countries, backgrounds and ethnicities, the Canadian government offers the following government-based scholarships to the international students in Canada
Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship is offered to international students enrolled in postgraduate study in natural or social sciences and health research in one of the Canadian Institutes. The scholarship is funded by the Government of Canada. Every year, 70 fellowships are awarded annually under this scholarship.
The scholarship is jointly administered by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council
The Applicant must be enrolled in postgraduate studies in natural or social sciences and health research.
Must meet the minimum requirement to be enrolled in the programme under which the scholarship is offered.
How to Apply?
An applicant to the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program must complete their application in full collaboration with the proposed host institution. Applicants must be endorsed by the Canadian Institution's president or equivalent.
Selection of the appropriate candidate for endorsement may be completed on the deadlines outlined specifically by the institution in question. A relevant representative will go through the applications, that all applicants must ensure are submitted well within the deadline. To do so, applicants are advised to reach out the person in charge of the postdoctoral affairs as soon as possible.
Applicants must coordinate with the institution with the application process to the scholarship.
The anticipated launch for the next competition, i.e. the 2021-22 competition is expected to begin at the end of April 2021. However, tentative dates for the competition may start anywhere between June 2021 to September 2021.

IDRC Research Awards are funded by the Canadian government. It is the scholarship awarded to students from developing countries to undertake a master’s or doctoral-level research degree at a recognized Canadian university.
The applicant must be enrolled in a master's or doctoral-level research degree at a recognized Canadian university.
He/She must be an international student from one of the participating countries. Indian students are eligible for the scholarship.
The proposed research should be focused on at least one developing countries. Additionally, there may be research-theme specific eligibility criteria, which the candidates should satisfy at the individual level.
How to Apply?
Applicants must complete the Application for an IDRC Research Grant kit. The online application form will be available on the official website of IRDC. Candidates will be asked to submit their applications by 4:00 pm EDT on the last date of submission. Incomplete and/or late submissions will not be entertained and therefore, the applications may be rejected thereafter.

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships are funded by the Canadian Government. It is awarded to attract international students to join doctoral programmes at Canadian institutions in the field of Health Research, Natural Sciences, Engineering Research or Social Sciences and Humanities Research. A total of 166 scholarships are awarded each year, with 500 scholarships being active at any given time.
The applicant must be enrolled for studies in the field of Health Research, Natural Sciences, Engineering Research or Social sciences and Humanities Research.
The candidate must be nominated by a Canadian institution with a quota.
How to Apply?
The candidates must seek a nomination from the institution at which they want to study. The applicants will be required to submit their applications to the nominating institution before the deadline. The nominating institutions will then be required to submit the respective applications. Those who are nominated by the Canadian institution are directly considered for the scholarship.
The value of the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship is $50,000 per year for three years during doctoral studies.
Students who are interested in applying for the scholarship for the 2022-21 academic year must submit their applications, tentatively by November 2021.
The last date for the 2021-22 academic year is November 3, 2020. (Now Closed).

The Anne Vallee Ecological Fund is offered to students enrolled at Quebec or University of British Columbia in animal research at the master or doctoral level. The funds are awarded to support field research work in animal ecology and the impact of human activities like forestry, industry, agriculture, and fishing on ecology.
The candidate must be enrolled in a master or doctoral level programme for research work in animal ecology that includes the study of the impact of human activities such as forestry, industry, agriculture, and fishing on ecosystems.

The Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship is offered to outstanding students enrolled at the University of Toronto. It is one of the most prestigious and competitive scholarships awarded at U of T, covering the tuition fees, book expenses, incidental fee as well as providing full residence support to the students for a period of 4 years. Every year, a total of 37 students are offered this scholarship.
Students must demonstrate exceptional academic achievements and creativity
He must prove to have leadership qualities.
Must be an enthusiastic learner and intellectually strong.
How to Apply?
Students must be nominated for the scholarship by their high school and should also pply to a programme at the University of Toronto. For assistance, reach out to the school guidance counsellor with reference to being nominated for the scholarship.
Subsequently, each nominated candidate will receive a personalised and secure link to the Lester B Pearson International Scholarship.
It should be noted that the scholarship will be awarded to the first choice of programme of the candidate. In other words, the first programme that the candidate chooses as their course of study at the institution will be considered for the scholarships. The scholarship will not be applicable for subsequent programme choices.
Students will be asked to complete the online application form for the Lester B Pearson International Scholarship once the nomination has been received and the interested candidate has applied to the university.

A number of higher education institutes offers scholarships to international students. Certain scholarships are offered by a specific department. Following is the list of some famous institutes in Canada that awards scholarships:
International Students enrolled in undergraduate studies at the University of British Columbia can apply for scholarships offered by the university. UBC awards scholarships to outstanding international students. Around $30 million is spent every year by the university on scholarship and financial support for international students enrolled in undergraduate studies.

Scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic excellence demonstration and involvement in extracurricular activities.
How to Apply?
Students who apply for admissions at UBC are automatically considered for scholarship on a merit basis. There is no need to fill in a separate application form.

York University International Student Scholarship Programme is offered to international students who are enrolled at the York University for undergraduate studies. The scholarship is awarded to encourage and support outstanding students to study at the university. It is a merit-based scholarship and students must apply for it before the deadline to be considered for award.
Must be an international student and have a valid Study Permit to study in Canada.
Must have applied to an undergraduate degree program at York for Fall 2021 session.

How to Apply?
Students must apply electronically to receive the York University Scholarship. They must submit a Student Financial Profile (SFP), a multipurpose online application form used to apply for many of York’s scholarships and awards.

The Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) is offered to students who are enrolled in publicly-assisted universities in Ontario. It is a merit-based scholarship and offered to the best student enrolled in the graduate programme in any academic discipline.
There are over 19 participating universities in Canada that accept OGS scholarships. These universities are located in the Ontario province of Canada. The scholarship program at U of T is funded jointly by the Province of Ontario and the University of Toronto.
The general eligibility criteria to apply for the Ontario Graduate Scholarship Program (OGS) are as follows:
Applicants must be enrolled in full-time graduate studies in one of the participating universities.
International students must have a temporary resident visa (student study permit) to receive the OGS Scholarships.
How to Apply?
Applicants can submit the OGS application using the U of T School of Graduate Studies centralized online OGS application. They must go through the instructions thoroughly before submitting the application

Each graduate unit sets its internal deadline for the submission of the application. Once the complete application is submitted online, it is reviewed and considered by the proposed graduate unit.
The value of the OGS is $5,000 per session. $10,000 is received for two consecutive sessions or $15,000 for three consecutive sessions. One-third of the total amount is offered by the graduate unit.
University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF) is offered to students who are enrolled in full-time Masters or PhD programmes at the University of Manitoba. Every year, more than $2 million dollars is spent by the university to provide the $2 million dollars University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship to students to attract outstanding students at the university.
To receive the University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

The Ontario Trillium Scholarships (OTS) is offered to interested students enrolled in PhD degree programmes at one of the universities in Ontario. Only those students who express their interest in the competition to the graduate program chair are considered for Ontario Trillium Scholarships (OTS). The applicant is then nominated by the Graduate Chair of the admitting program to be considered for a scholarship.
The applicant must have received a minimum of 80% marks in the last years of full-time studies.
He/ She must be an international student.
Must be enrolled in on-campus full-time PhD studies in any discipline for Summer Term or Fall Term.
Must not be already registered in a university degree program at an Ontario university.
Must have outstanding university academic record and exceptional research experience and potential.
The value of OTS Scholarship is $40,000 per year renewable for up to 4 years

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation funds the scholarship to empower scholars and encourage them to contribute to society. Any student who has been accepted in one to three years of the full-time programme at a Canadian university in the social sciences or humanities can apply for the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Scholarship.
The applicant must be enrolled full-time in a doctoral programme.
He/ She must demonstrate strong academic performance and intellectual abilities.
How to Apply?
Candidates can directly apply online by visiting the official website of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation. The online application along with the transcript and referrals must be submitted before the deadline.
The total value of the scholarship is $60,000. $40,000 per year for three years covers tuition and living expenses.
Rest $20,000 is used to as research, networking, and travel allowance per year for three years/
The final deadline to submit applications to the Pierre Elliott Foundation is 5 January 2021.
In a bid to support international students in studying in one of the finest francophone research institutions in the world, the Université Montréal International Student Scholarship Programme also diversifies the educational mission of the institutions by enriching the cultural diversity of the community.
The value of the scholarships will depend on the programme and degree chosen by the candidates. For undergraduate, students may receive scholarships ranging anywhere between $2,000 - $11,000. Meanwhile, for postgraduate programme, students may receive scholarships amounting to $9,420 per year, while for doctoral programmes, students may receive scholarships amounting to $20,248.20 per year.
Candidate are not required to apply for this scholarship, the university will select the eligible candidates based on the information provided by the candidates regarding their past academic records and overall achievments and qualities.
Offered to students enrolled under the different graduate programmes offered by the University of Saskatchewan, scholarships worth $20,000 for doctoral students and $16,000 for Masters students are available for international students.
