Tour and travel in the current generation is one of the most sought after services in the economy. People’s need to travel due to business interests do not change much whether the economy is in boom or in depression. Only reason may change. Similarly, growing stress and pressure of current life have made it very common for people to take a break in the cool climes of hills or seashore. The hospitality sector has seen growth, as a result, even when overall global economy remained somewhat wobbly.
Global growth and development of tourism have opened up innumerable openings. As a result, a graduating student from Hospitality management (also known as Hotel management) can look forward to various career opportunities as discussed below;

Almost 100% of the graduates are employed in the Hospitality and other service sectors through on-campus and off-campus recruitment processes. Career growth in the industry is also very good. In about 5-7 years’ time, people reach the managerial position.
For Hospitality/Hotel Management there are 4 major institutes from which aspirants can choose their institutions and courses.
I. NCHMCT JEE
National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (Society) was set up in the year 1982 by the Government of India as an autonomous body for coordinated growth and development of hospitality education in the country.
The Council imparts Hospitality Education & Training through 21 Central Govt. sponsored Institutes of Hotel Management, 21 State Government sponsored institutes, 15 Pvt. institutes and 7 Food Craft Institutes, that function in different parts of the country.
10 different professional programs leading to the award of Certificate, Diploma, Post Graduate Diploma, Bachelor and Master Degree. The BSc. And MSc. programmes are offered in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Open University – IGNOU.

Availability of Admit Cards: 20th April 2016 (1400 Hrs. onwards)

II. Systematic Training and Education Programme (STEP)
Promoted way back in 1966 by the Oberoi Group, the Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development, Delhi is one of the top ranked hotel management (hospitality management) institute in India. OCLD offers a three-year Systems Training and Education Programme (STEP) which combines hotel management training with an undergraduate degree from the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). OCLD doesn’t charge tuition fees from the students of its programme but pays them a monthly stipend (Rs.3,500) and after graduation all students are offered jobs in one of the 28 Oberoi Group hotels.

Programme starts: Mid - August
· The candidate should be between 18 years and 20 years of age, as on 15th August of the year of the commencement of the programme.
· The candidate must have cleared class XII as on 1st July of the year of the commencement of the programme, from a board recognized by the Indira Gandhi National Open University, India
· The candidate should have obtained 61% marks or above, in English in class X. The equivalent in CBSE is a B2 Grade or a 7 Grade Point [For Hotel Operations Programme (Front Office / Food and Beverage Service focus) and Kitchen Operations Programme]
· The candidate should have obtained 51% marks or above, in English in class X. The equivalent in CBSE is a C1 Grade or a 6 Grade Point [For Hotel Operations Programme (Housekeeping focus)].
After completion of STEP programme, a student becomes eligible to join OCLD (Oberoi Centre for Learning and Development) or OCER (Oberoi Central Employment Register).
Round 1: A groups of 15-20 participants are taken through a round of activities and questionnaires to check the candidates grooming, poise and spoken English.
Round 2: Short-listed Round-1 candidates are taken to another round of activities for a one-on-one interview with a panel. Here, the evaluators check their aptitude for hospitality.
Round 3: Short-listed candidates will be invited for a final round of activities and another round of interview with a panel.
Seats Offered: 250 seats (approx.) in 11 hotels.
III. Manipal University – Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA)
Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA) is a well-known institute of hotel management and ranked among the Top 5. This Institute was the first college in India to design the bachelor’s degree curriculum in hotel management, and over the years, it has produced internationally successful students . WGSHA’s, for long, has 100 percent placement record.
Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration is an important college under the Manipal Academy of Higher Education and was established in October 1986 through a memorandum of understanding with ITC Hotels. The 8-acre WGSHA campus houses the 70-room Fortune Inn Valley View Hotel (an ITC member hotel), and hostel complex offering accommodation to 450 students. The institution, known as the Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration, (in Short – WGSHA) In July 2003, became a constituent college of Manipal University.

There is no Entrance Test for these three courses. Selection is based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination,
i) MSC (HOSPITALITY & TOURISM MANAGEMENT)
ii) MSC (DIETETICS & APPLIED NUTRITION)
iii) PG DIPLOMA IN CULINARY ARTS
There is no Entrance Test for this course. Candidates would be selected for admission on the basis of their past academic record and performance in the GD & PI.
Manipal University will declare a list of candidates in the order of merit on or before 16.07.2016 in the website.
##For the courses where no entrance test is there Manipal University will declare a merit list in the website after the last date for application.
IV. GGSIP University
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, commonly known as Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), has announced the application for admissions to it’s undergraduate courses. Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, 'A' Grade accreditation with NAAC, established by Government of NCT of Delhi under the provisions of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Act, 1998 read with its Amendment in 1999.
Each year, Bachelor in Hotel Management Common entrance test (BHMCT) is conducted by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University for selection of candidates in the undergraduate hotel management courses. Being very popular and reputed University a large number of candidates from all over the country appear for the test for getting an opportunity to study BHMCT in GGSIPU.
