WBJEE 2016 Exam Analysis

Nearly 1.3 lac candidates appeared in the WBJEE examination for admission into Government and privately run engineering colleges within the state of West Bengal. WBJEE examination was held on 17th May in a Pen Paper mode (Offline) examination across all major cities in West Bengal.

The test was held in two sessions- the first session started at 12.45 PM and lasted up to 2.45 PM. The second session was also of two hours and started after a break of half an hour. The result is expected to be declared in mid-June 2016.

Scores of WBJEE are important in seeking admission to the 4-year engineering degree courses of Government and private institutions. Students from outside West Bengal also appear for admission in the private run colleges.

Biology paper of WBJEE was cancelled due the recent Supreme Court ruling towards NEET. However, those seeking admission in B Pharm courses wrote Physics and Chemistry paper.

The test was in Pen Paper mode (Offline) and paper quality was quite on the expected lines. The distribution of the questions is as below:

Section wise analysis

Physics

The section was a mixed bag of difficult and easy questions. Overall the difficulty level of the section was moderate to high. This section comprised kinematics, laws of motion, rotational motion, hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, semiconductors, atom and nuckei, dual nature of matter, heat and thermodynamics, alternating current, optics, electrostatics, electromagnetics induction, current electricity, magnetism etc. An attempt of 25 plus questions with about more than 80% accuracy will be considered good.

Chemistry

The section was a mixed bag of difficult and easy questions. Overall the difficulty level of the section was moderate to high. This section comprised mole concept, equilibrium, thermodynamics, practical chemistry, s-block elements, d-block elements, transition elements, atomic structure, chemical bonding, hydrocarbons, aldehydes and ketones, halo alkanes, alcohol, amines, chemistry in everyday life etc. An attempt of 25 plus questions with about more than 80% accuracy will be considered good.

Maths

The section was relatively easy and had a number of easy questions than that of difficult questions. Overall the difficulty level of the section was easy to moderate. This section comprised almost all major areas of class XI and XII mathematics. This section comprised conic sections, straight line, 3-D, integral calculus, differential equation, differentiation, application of derivatives, permutation and combinations, statistics, probability, relation and functions, quadratic equations, inequalities, area under curve, arithmetic and geometric progressions complex numbers, matrices, determinants, triangles, limits and derivatives. A candidate well versed with the XI and XII mathematics text books definitely had a field day. Many of the questions could be solved by ‘plug in the answer choice’ process. An attempt of 50 plus questions with about more than 80% accuracy will be considered good.

Cut Off

WBJEE 2016 for Engineering does not have any cut off but it is estimated that a safe score should be between 90 and 100. One should get a rank high above to get into a Government college or in a good private run college with this range of score.
