- Minimum 50 per cent marks in English either in 10th, 12th or graduation.
- The candidate should be no more than 28 years of age.

- Eyesight should be 6/6 with or without external aids, maximum power permitted up to ±2.5.
- Candidates with colour blindness are not considered eligible.
Electro Technical Officer (ETO)
- The candidate has to pass 10 + 2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
- Those who have a 3 years diploma with 60 per cent marks or four years' degree including lateral entry with 50 per cent marks in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication / Communication Engineering, or Electronics and Instrumentation or equivalent are also eligible.
- The diploma and degree courses must have been recognised by the State or Central Government or the AICTE.
- Candidates who have completed B.E. or B.Tech after a diploma course are also eligible (10+2 with PCM is not required).
- The marks scored in English should be no less than 50 per cent in either 10th, 12th, diploma or degree.

For Diploma in Nautical Science
- The applicants have to clear the 10 + 2 level or its equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as mandatory subjects.
- The average marks scored in PCM should be no less than 60 per cent.
- Those who have a B.Sc. degree in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or Electronics with Physics as individual subject in one of the year, with an average of not less than 55 per cent of marks in the final year can also apply.
- Candidates with a degree of B.E. or B.Tech. from any college that is recognised by the AICTE with an average of not less than 50 per cent marks in the final year are also considered eligible.
- The candidates should have obtained at least 50 per cent marks in the subject of English at the level of class 10th or 12th or in the degree course conducted by any recognised board or university.
- All candidates have to clear the IMU CET entrance exam.
