Note 1: Relaxation of 5% for English marks will be applicable for candidates who belong to the scheduled tribes and are natives of the Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Additionally, both the candidates’ parents must be born in the islands and belong to the scheduled tribes of their islands.

- B.Tech – Naval Architect and Ocean Engineering

Eligibility:

Graduation in B.E. Mechanical/Naval Architecture from a recognized institution with a minimum of 50% in the final year and a minimum of 50% in English language in the 10th, 12th, or Degree Exam.

Maximum age limit: 28 years old as of the start date of the course.

Age relaxations: 3 years for OBC (NCL), 5 years for SC/ST, and 2 years for females.

Note: The BE/B. Tech degree, or any other higher degree, such as a 5-year integrated M.E./M.Tech degree, must be earned from an AICTE accredited institute, IITs, or University Engineering Colleges (colleges directly run by university).

Full-time Mechanical Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) Mechanical and Automation, Mechanical and Electronics, Mechanical and Automobile, and so on are examples of streams. The word "Mechanical" indicates that it is the primary subject, whereas the second subject is optional.

Candidates with a degree in any branch of naval architecture, such as Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding, and so on. The term "Naval Architecture" indicates that it is the essential subject, whereas the second subject is optional.

Note: Candidates who belong to the scheduled tribes and are inhabitants of the Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands will be given a 5% English mark relaxation. In addition, both applicants' parents must have been born on the islands and be members of the island's scheduled tribes.

In addition to the aforementioned requirements, the candidate must have received a minimum of 50% in English language in a 10th, 12th, or Diploma/Degree exam.

Admission for Indian Maritime University Postgraduate Courses

- M.Tech – Marine Engineering and Management

Duration: 2 years

Level: Graduation

Mode: Full Time

Eligibility:

BE/B. Tech in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Naval Architecture from a recognized university with at least 60% aggregate marks.

OR

Part A and B in Mechanical Engineering, Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers, with at least 60% aggregate marks (by examination).

OR

Certificate of Competency for MEO Class I.

Note 1: For SC/ST applicants, there will be a 5% reduction in the eligibility requirements.

Admission for Indian Maritime University Research Programs

- Ph.D. program 

Duration: 3 years (full time) / 4 years (part time) 

Level: Post Graduation

Mode: Full Time / Part time

Eligibility:

Admission to the Ph.D. program will be based on one or more of the following criteria:

Category I:

Candidates who have completed SSLC (10th or 11th grade) and PUC or higher secondary (12th grade) before enrolling in an undergraduate (UG) program (3 years or more) or UG before enrolling in a postgraduate (PG) degree program, i.e. 10+2+UG degree (3 years or more) or 11+1+ UG degree (3 years or more) (3 or more years)

And

The PG must be in the corresponding research areas in the Schools of Marine Engineering, Nautical Studies, Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering, Maritime Management, or a similar subject with at least 55% or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). The minimum marks for SC/ ST/ OBC (NCL)/ PwD candidates shall be 50% (Or equivalent CGPA).

Category II:

Candidates having an M.S. (by Research) or M.Phil. Degree in the corresponding research areas from the Schools of Marine Engineering, Nautical Studies, Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering, Maritime Management, or another relevant subject.

Category III:

Mariners with a Master or MEO Class I Certificate of Competency or a PGDMOM certification who have worked as professors in IMU/IMU Affiliated Institutes/DG (S) authorized institutes for at least two years.

- M.S. (By Research)

Duration: 2 years (full time) / 3 years (part time) 

Level: Graduation

Eligibility:

Admission to the M.S. (By Research) program will be based on one or more of the following criteria:

Category I

Candidates with a relevant undergraduate degree with a 10+2+(3 or 4) pattern and a cumulative grade point average of at least 55% or equivalent (CGPA).

Category II

Mariners who have completed the Master or MEO Class I Certificate of Competency. The minimum marks for SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PwD candidates shall be 50% (or equivalent CGPA).

UG admissions at IMU Chennai in 2023

At the undergraduate level, IMU Chennai provides B.Tech, BSc, BBA, and DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science). All of these courses, with the exception of BBA, are admitted through the IMU CET. Candidates who wish to pursue IMU Chennai UG programs must be at least 25 years old. 

PG admissions at IMU Chennai in 2023

The university provides MBA and MSc programs at the postgraduate level. Admission to these programs is done through the IMU CET. For seafarers having a Master (FG) Certificate of Competency or a MEO Class-I Certificate of Competency, 50% of the total places in MSc are reserved. The entrance exam is waived for such seamen. A physical fitness certificate from a qualified medical practitioner is required of all candidates who qualify for PG degree programs.

Research programs admission at IMU Chennai in 2023

For admission to Ph.D. and MS by Research programs, the university administers the IMU CET. The exam consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) designed to assess a candidate's general mental capacity, knowledge of the maritime industry, and knowledge of the relevant discipline/area of research. An essay test on a broad topic is also included in the exam. The weightage of the MCQ and essay tests is 50% and 35%, respectively. Candidates who have been shortlisted based on their performance on the entrance exam will be required to participate in a PI (personal interview) round, which will account for the remaining 15% of their score.

Candidates must meet the IMU CET 2023 eligibility criteria in order to be admitted to IMU campuses for various programs. > Candidates must first pay the non-refundable counseling cost of INR 10,000 using net banking, credit card, or debit card for registration before choosing the program and institute to which they desire to apply.

> Candidates will be assigned seats at the IMU CET campus based on their rank in the IMU CET exam (this year on the basis of class 12 marks), their category, program preference, and campus, as well as the quantity of seats available.
