Northern Arizona University (NAU) started in 1899 with 23 students and 2 faculty members. In 1901, 4 women got certificates to teach in Arizona state territory through Arizona Normal College as it was named earlier. With the addition of Masters of Arts in Education in 1937, graduation work started and a first college degree was awarded in 1939.

From May 1, 1966, with the recommendation of the Arizona Board of Regents accredited by Higher Learning Commission, Arizona State College became Northern Arizona University (NAU).

The university is ranked #293-#381 in National Universities by US News 2020.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

Flagstaff campus is at a height of 2120m above sea level and it is regarded as one of the highest elevated colleges of US. The various colleges conducting academic courses are College of Arts and Letters, College of Education, College of Engineering, Informatics, and Applied Sciences, College of Health and Human Services, and W.A. Franke College of Business among a few others.

There are more than 160000 alumni from NAU, and famous among them are Robin Braun the United States Navy Vice Admiral, Diana Gabaldon, New York Times Bestselling Author.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

With predominantly American attendees, women students at NAU comprise 62%, and male percentage is only 38. As many as 64% of students are from the state and 36% of students are out of state. Only 3% of the total enrolment is of foreign students. The NAU online recruitment portal, Handshake, facilitates connection between employers and students and alumni looking for internships and jobs. International students are allowed to work on-campus. For off-campus jobs for international students, NAU facilitates recruitment and selection process. Top organizations where the alumni work include Northern Arizona University, Sodexo, University of Arizona, Banner Health, Arizona Snowbowl Resort, Target, Starbucks, Harkins Theatres, and State Farm.
