Infrastructure

All major refurbishments and new buildings are constructed to meet Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) excellent standards.College 'Masterplan' sets out the framework for any long term investment in infrastructureTo further support sustainable construction, they are aiming to develop a ‘zero carbon’ standard for University buildings.

Recent and forthcoming examples of BREEAM buildings:

Areospace Integrated Research Centre (AIRC)

This collaborative research facility will be constructed to BREEAM excellent standard in line with college environmental objectives.

Learning and teaching centre

In 2012 college Learning and Teaching Centre achieved a BREEAM "Excellent" rating within the refurbishment category and was awarded ‘Best Education Development’ in the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards the same year.

Stringfellow infrastructure

In 2008 college Stringfellow Hall student accommodation was shortlisted for the Royal Institute of British Architects(RIBA) East of England Awards for its innovative and environmentally-friendly design which incorporated solar thermal panels.

Sustainable buildings and infrastructure

Since 2010 there have been extensive investments improving the environmental efficiency of University infrastructure on the Cranfield campus. Further details are outlined on college carbon and water webpages.
