History, Affiliations & Rankings

The University of Salford originated in 1896 and it was called the Royal Technical Institute with a merger of Salford working Men’s College and Mechanics Institute. By 1921, it was called Royal Technical College and again in 1958, it split into two organizations- the first one RTC and the second one being Peel Park Technical College. In 1961, it was called Salford Technical College, in 1970 Salford college of Technology and finally University College Salford in 1992. The university is affiliated by the Privy Council. It is ranked 801 in World University Ranking by Times Higher Education with 4.3 stars on study portals.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses   

The campus of the university with an urban setting is spread in 160 acres of land with a breathtaking view along with the bank of river Irwell. The main Peel Park campus is the first public park in the world opened in 1846. It is very close to Manchester city. Most of its administration building is opposite Peel Campus. Along with that, the campus has pathways, lush green spaces, administrative and support services. Salford Museum and Art Gallery which is England’s first free public library is situated here. It has research facilities like aeronautical laboratories, civil engineering structural testing, and digital studios. Clifford Whitworth Library has many facilities like printed and digital resources with access to laptops too. Peel Park Quarter which is accommodation for students was voted the second-best student in the UK by student Hut. The most sought after courses are Arts, Media, Business, Built Environment, Computing, Science & Engineering, Life Sciences & Health and Society at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Achievements & Alumni

The University of Salford has been awarded in excellence in sustainability in 2019. Its Energy House has been involved in smart energy GB and energy-saving efficiency initiatives.  University has its inclusion in first 200 international universities. Many notable alumni are pass out from this prestigious College like Sir Ben Kinsley (actor), Jason Manford (Comedian), Johnny Marr, Andres James Bond, LS Lowry and many more.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies 

It has more than 21,000 students including some 3000 international students. This University welcomes many international students and offers InterLINK, a way to introduce new international students to a student from the UK who acts as a mentor and who gives them friendly advice and support them to adapt to a new environment. It also has a society for international students which arranges many activities and events all year round. The University’s Student Hub brings students and employer together so that the best internships and placements can be offered to the graduates of Salford. Some companies who visit the campus for placements are SIS, BUPA, NHS, Enterprise, and Rent a car.
