History, Affiliations and Ranking

Wellington Institute of Technology is also called WelTec. It was founded in 1904 in Petone, Wellington, New Zealand. It was called Petone Technical School then. In 2001 after the merger of the Central Institute of Technology and Hutt Valley Polytechnic got its new

name WelTec.  In 2020 WelTec came under the New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology (NZIST) along with 15 other institutes. WelTec is affiliated with Public NZ TEI. It holds a world ranking at #9355 and New Zealand at #21 by Webometrics.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses  

WelTec has six campuses, Petone Campus, Porirua Campus, Te Kahui Auaha, Wellington Regional School of Construction, Hospitality Campus - Wellington CBD, and Auckland Campus. University has its main campus in Petone in Lower Hutt which has the administrative department along with the library and other buildings or blocks. The Auckland campus at Auckland CBD offers programs in Business, Information Technology, and the English language. The Porirua Campus is one of the most beautiful campuses and offers courses in Business, IT, Nursing and Paramedics. Te Kahui Auaha campus offers Creative Writing & Publishing, Film Production, Hair, Beauty & Makeup, Music, Performing Arts and Visual Arts, and Digital Media. Wellington CBD is on Dixon Street which is shared with Whitireia and Wellington ICT Graduate school. Other campuses are at State Highway 2 and Cuba Street. Wellington Regional School of Construction is home to construction and trade study programs. Construction, hospitality, and business programs are some of the popular courses offered by WelTec.

Courses offered at WelTec are sponsored by and designed in partnership with industry. Prominent sponsors and partners include ANZ, Xero, Trademe, Pushpay, Trustpower, University of Canterbury, etc. Prominent alumni include Director of Operations at Jumeirah Restaurant Group, Dean Murphy, Joe Daly of  Bupa Australia & New Zealand.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies
 
WelTec is the safest and friendly place for international students. The degrees and graduate diplomas are very popular for international students. There is a team assigned for international students who assist them with any query and concern related to campus. In 2017, as many as 7850 students enrolled at WelTec. Of this 3746 pursued a full-time program. In the same year, the gender ratio at WelTec was skewed against women with 30% of students being women and 70% men. There are many companies visiting the campus for employing the graduates some of them are Acton International marketing, Aims Global Immigration & Education services, Air New Zealand Aviation Institute, Ara Institute of Canterbury, Biomed Ltd, Crimson Education, Drake New Zealand, Embassy of Japan, IEP New Zealand, International Aviation Academy of NZ, L3 Aviation, Media Design School, Orion NZ Ltd, University of Otago, US Embassy.
