Students Activities & Clubs

NSS Club -

The National Service Scheme (NSS) was introduced in the college in 2009 and since then it has been rendering very useful service in society. The NSS volunteers participate in many programmes round the year observing Anti Drug-Abuse Day, Earth Day, HIV/AIDS Day and International Women's Day among various other notable dates in the calendar in addition to carrying out the week-long Special Camp during which 50 volunteers under the guidance of their faculty counsellors namely, Sm Somosree Roy Chowdhury and Sm Devalina Gopalan visit a local colony of under-privileged people for seven days educating the children about hygiene, environment, gender-discrimination etc and also impart cultural training to them.

In 2012 the NSS Unit of the college had won awards from the University of Calcutta under two categories, namely Best College and Best Programme Officer, the then Programme Officer having been Dr. Guinea Bhattacharyya.

From distributing medicines and blankets in the Sunderbans to visiting the elderly in Old Peoples' Homes to offering honorary service to the Blind Peoples' Association our NSS volunteers have done everything, and we are proud of them! May they continue their good work under the loving guidance of their Principal, Dr. Ajanta Paul, their three former Programme Officers: Dr. Nibedita Raha, Sm Nabanita Mitra and Dr. Guinea Bhattacharyya and the present Programme Officer Sm Somosree Roy Chowdhuryand her team of dedicated teachers and non-teaching staff members.

To that end it has installed a Rainwater Harvesting System, introduced waste segregation, greening of the campus, No-Plastic Zones in the college, conservation of electricity, recycling of paper, and organized inter-college observances of Earth Day.

The Eco-Club volunteers under the guidance of the Conveners, Sm Sanchita Gupta and Sm Senjuti Saha, and other faculty members such as Sm Anindya Basu, Sri Arijit Majumder, Sm Nayana Dutta and Sm Sathi Naik participated in various programmes and initiatives in the college, in other institutions, and in local society in general to promote awareness about the need to protect our only habitat, the earth.
