Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE) renders Master of Fisheries Science - Fisheries Resource Management, Aquaculture, Aquatic Animal Health Management, Aquatic Environment Management, Genetics and Breeding, Fish Biotechnology, Fish Physiology courses. The college is an ISO 9001:2008 certified college with ICAR accreditation. CIFE was established in 1961 by the Ministry of Agriculture in Mumbai. The institute received deemed university status in 1989.The Institute is a major contributor to the nation’s growing fisheries industry in terms of human resources. The college aims to provide demand-driven and latest education and training to its students through its post-graduate programs. The professionals it produces are trained in providing technical support, consultancy services and developing policies in fishery sciences. The institute has four centers in Rohtak, Kolkata, Kakinada and Powarkheda. CIFE offers Master of Fishery Sciences and Ph. D. in eleven disciplines. The institute has grown by leaps and bounds catering to the needs of the growing fishery industries. Dr. S.K. Chakraborty, Dr. M.P. Singh Kohli, and Dr. K.K. Jain are some of its prominent faculty members. The CIFE was then conferred to Deemed University status in 1989 by the University Grants Commission (UGC).The Deemed University included both Research and Education in its mandate. CIFE has been proactive in research and development of fisheries and aquaculture both in India and world wide.With a team of dedicated scientists and state-of-art infrastructure facilities, CIFE is actively partnering the knowledge led revolution in order to create fisheries and aquaculture based sustainable rural livelihoods and to ensure food and nutritional security for all.
Students of CIFE are placed in several major fisheries around the country. Several of them are leading researchers in their field today. The dedicated placement cell regularly conducts grooming sessions of the students in areas like soft skills, interview facing skills, behavioral skills hereby making them industry-fit.
