Algonquin College was established in 1967. It was formed as a part of the Ontario College System under the college of applied arts and sciences. It is a public-funded college located in Ottawa, Ontario. The institution was co-founded by the Eastern Ontario Institute of Technology and the Ontario Vocational Centre Ottawa. The College is a member of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association. It is also one of the first colleges to gain accreditation from Cooperative Education and Work-Integrated Learning, Canada. Most of the programs offered by Algonquin College hold accreditation from the Association of Community College Trustees. It has been ranked as one of the top 50 research colleges in Canada. The institution has academic and research affiliations with CCAA, ACCC, AUCC, CBIE and Polytechnics Canada.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

Algonquin College has 3 campuses in Ontario, namely, Ottawa Campus, Pembroke Campus and Perth Campus. The main campus of Algonquin College is the Ontario Campus which features digital classrooms, libraries, cafeterias and auditoriums. The campus has an on-campus accommodation facility. Algonquin College offers various undergraduate and postgraduate programs alongside the certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas. It has a wide range of courses to offer. It offers 11 bachelor degrees. The college has a partnership with Canadian Forces and offers students Geomatics Technician program under the same. Additionally, Geomatics Technician Diploma is also available for the graduates. The institution offers general public services at a discounted rate than outside the campus, and allows practical on-job training to its students.

Accomplishments & Alumni

Algonquin College has recently announced that it will receive $2.3 million over five years ($460,000 per year) to fund a new Data Analytics Centre which will work with local and national partners to harness the power of big data for the purposes of data mining, machine learning for predictive analytics, and distributed intelligence. Partners of Algonquin College’s centre include regional innovators such as Gnowit, Global Advantage, CHEO, Newborn Screening Ontario, Ocular Mobile Innovations, Community Ingenuity, IBM, Cumulus Dental, Paradigm Technologies, GaitTronics, RealDecoy, bitHeads, TyQuest, Discoverly, Mitel, Carleton University, The University of Ottawa, Invest Ottawa, Ontario Centers of Excellence, CANARIE, and Research Data Canada. Some of the immensely successful and famous alumni include names like Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed, Jason Blaine, Frank Cole, Norm Macdonald, Dan O'Toole and many more. 

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

More than 20% of the student population is international students from over 100 countries. The name itself is derived from the resident Algonquin community, and there are provisions made for Aboriginal, First Nations and Metis students for scholarships and other bursaries. The institute also has partnered in Project Hero to provide scholarships for family members of fallen Canadian Forces members. Algonquin College enjoys a great network of employers and has a great reputation among the students for its placements. It has a 97% employment rate. Some of the recruiters are Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, MicroSystems International, MKC Networks, Ogilvy's, PlaSmart and various others. The college also provides guidance in relation to Career and other matters of pre and post graduation to the students.
