Colorado Mesa University is a public institution that was founded in 1925, CMU has three campuses and the primary campus is in central Grand Junction. CMU’s ranking in the 2020 edition of Best Colleges is Regional Universities West, #87-#113. The University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association. 

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

With an undergraduate enrollment of 9,365, the main campus size in the heart of Grand Junction, Colorado is 86 acres. The Maverick Center houses athletic facilities under one roof. The Moss Performing Arts Center provides music, dance, and theatre students with the facilities needed to let their creativity shine. Tomlinson Library now contains over 190,000 volumes, including a large government documents collection, and a geology library. The core of the university is our 288 full-time academic and technical faculty members from 13 departments. CMU offers technical certificates, associate degrees, baccalaureate degrees, and master's degrees. The most popular majors at Colorado Mesa University include Business/Commerce, General; Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse; Kinesiology and Exercise Science; Biology/Biological Sciences, General; and Criminal Justice/Safety Studies. CMU offers more than 708 student-athletes the opportunity to earn a degree while competing at a top Division II institution. Colorado Mesa University distributed over $78 million in financial aid to 75% of the student body population through scholarships, grants, loans, and student employment. 

Accomplishments & Alumni

In 2019, 16 Future Business Leaders of America Phi Beta Lambda of CMU’s business department participated in the state competition. Each of the 16 won awards and advanced to nationals. CMU’s graphic design student secured the first place in The Review, a statewide competition for graphic design students in 2019.
Some of the notable alumni are April Dawn Heinrichs former soccer player and coach, Darrel Akerfelds, Larry Brunson and Brendan Donnelly, etc.

The student-faculty ratio at Colorado Mesa University is 20:1. CMU has an enrollment of more than 11,044 students with more than 15 percent of the university's student body coming from outside Colorado. It offers a number of student services, including nonremedial tutoring, placement service, daycare, health service, health insurance. Top employers in the area include Star Tek Inc., Union Pacific Railroad, Reynolds Polymer Technology, to name a few.
