Himachal Pradesh National Law University Fee Structure and Courses List

HPNLU Shimla offers courses in the field of Law. The courses are offered at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and, doctoral levels. The popular courses are BA LLB (Hons), and BBA LLB (Hons), which are five-year integrated courses. LLM is another popular course offered at the postgraduate level as a one-year programme. PhD is offered at the doctoral level. One of the recent additions to the HPNLU course admissions is the MBA in Corporate Law course. 

Scores of the CLAT exam are considered for admission to the BA LLB (Hons), BBA LLB (Hons), and, LLM courses. For the PhD admission, the university conducts its own entrance test each year. The MBA in Corporate Law admission is based on merit. Among the HPNLU courses, the BA LLB (Hons) and BBA LLB (Hons) courses are Five-Year Integrated Programmes, comprising courses in Law, Management and Social Sciences. For the BBA LLB (Hons) course, Economics is the ‘major’ course. Under the BA LLB (Hons) programme, students have the option to choose one from, Economics, Political Science, and Sociology, as their ‘major’ courses. BA LLB (Hons)

The BA LLB (Hons) is one of the most popular courses offered at the university. It is a Five-Year-Integrated programme approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Bar Council of India (BCI). Students have the option to choose from  Economics, Political Science, and Sociology, as their ‘major’ course. All the subjects for the HPNLU course admissions to this course are compulsory except for the choice of the major and minor subjects offered. Moreover, four specialisations, namely,  Constitutional Law, Business Law, Crime & Criminology, and International Law, are offered to candidates in the last 4 semesters of the course. Admissions are based on the scores of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). The seat intake for this course is 60 and the HPNLU fees structure is Rs 2,20,500, annually. Case studies, field visits and assignments are a crucial part of the curriculum for this course.

BBA LLB (Hons)

BBA LLB (Hons) is another popular course offered by HPNLU Shimla. The course is approved by the UGC and BCI and is a Five-Year-Integrated programme. Economics is the major course in this programme. Four specialisations, namely,  Constitutional Law, Business Law, Crime & Criminology, and International Law, are offered for the Himachal Pradesh National Law University course admissions in the last 4 semesters of the course. Admissions are based on the scores of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). The teaching curriculum involves case studies, classroom teaching, field visits, seminars, etc. The total seat intake for the BBA LLB (Hons) course is 60. The fee for the course is Rs 2,20,500 per annum. 

LLM

LLM is one of the popular postgraduate courses at the university. The course duration is 1 year and the HPNLU fees for the course is Rs 1,71,500 for the entire year. LLM is also approved by the UGC and BCI. The admissions to this course are based on the scores of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) and the eligibility criteria of having an LLB degree from a recognised university. The total seat intake for the course is 80. The teaching curriculum involves case studies, classroom teaching, field visits, seminars, etc.

PhD

Among the HPNLU courses at the doctoral level, PhD is offered. The admission to the PhD course is strictly based on the PhD Entrance Test conducted by Himachal Pradesh National University every year. The total seat intake for this course is 10. Applicants must apply for the entrance exam through the official website of the university and submit their applications to the ERP portal of the university. For the HPNLU course admissions to this course, areas like Research Methodology, Constitutional Law, and, Jurisprudence are evaluated in the entrance examination. Seats are allotted to students based on their performance in the entrance examination of the university. 

MBA in Corporate Law


MBA in Corporate Law has been introduced recently at the university. The total seat intake for the course is 30 seats. Admission is on a merit basis and students must have completed graduation or an equivalent degree from a recognised university. The minimum marks obtained in graduation must be 55% marks for general category students and 50% for the reserved category candidates. The Himachal Pradesh National Law University provides hostel accommodation separately for boys and girls. The girls' hostel block of the campus is ready with all amenities like a canteen, mess, wi-fi, etc., while the boys' hostel accommodation will be fully constructed by December 2022. HPNLU Fee Payment Guidelines

  • The fee for all courses at the university will be accepted through the State Bank Collect feature which can be accessed through the website onlinesbi.com. 
  • Candidates who intend to deposit the fees through Demand Draft on account of their education loan are required to deposit the fee through SBI Collect to Himachal Pradesh National Law University or through Demand Draft in favour of Registrar, Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla. This can be done with the help of a banker. 
  • As per the revised HPNLU fee refund policy 2023, if a written request for withdrawal or cancellation of admission is issued before October 31, 2023, then the entire fee will be refunded. 
  • In case the request is received between November 1, 2022, and, December 31, 2022, the entire fee shall be refunded except for Rs 1,000. This will be deducted as the processing charge. 
  • As per the HPNLU fee structure, if the request for cancellation comes in on or after January 1, 2023, or before the start of the second semester, then, students will be refunded with all refundable securities, fees deposited for the second semester, and the hostel fee, if no hostel was allotted yet. 
  • The fee guidelines for the university as well as the HPNLU fee refund policy are in adherence with the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
