Established in the year 1592, Trinity College Dublin is the first and only constituent college of Irelands research university, the University of Dublin. The college was founded by Queen Elizabeth I, whose organisational structure was influenced by leading UK universities like Oxford, Cambridge as well as continental precursors. Trinity is considered as one of the seven ancient colleges of Britain & Ireland. It is affiliated with CHCI, UBIAS & ECHIC and is also a member of LERU (League of European Research) & a founding member of the Irish Humanities Alliance. It holds top rank in the universities of Ireland. Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020 ranks Trinity 1st in Ireland, 76th in Europe and 164th globally. Further, it is ranked 101st globally, 37th in Europe and 1st in Ireland in QS World University Rankings 2020.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

Trinity College Dublin is located in the heart of Dublins city centre with its main college grounds spreading across an area of 47 acres. The campus houses one of the largest R&D infrastructure in Ireland along with modern art in Douglas Hyde Gallery & Pomodoros unique sculpture and is also home to the famous Berkley Library built in 1853. At present, Trinity is home to 18,000 students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate programs across major disciplines like law, engineering, health sciences, business, arts and humanities and science which come under three faculties and schools of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Engineering, Mathematics and Science; and Health Sciences. As of 2018, Trinity College has a total of 124 societies and 50 sports affiliated to the Dublin University Central Societies Committee (CSC) and Dublin University Central Athletic Club (DUCAC) respectively.

Achievements & Alumni

Trinity College Dublin campus is the first to join the International Sustainable Campus in research & teaching in Ireland. This prestigious university has educated some of Irelands most famous public figures, including writers, politicians and Nobel Prize winners. Some of them are Bram Stoker, Oscar Wilde, Jonathan Swift, Samuel Beckett, Niall Horan, Mary Robinson, Mary McAleese, and Mairead Maguire & Theobald Wolfe. Trinity also boasts its commitment to supporting industries, from SMEs to MNCs at both national and international levels. Reuters Most Innovative European Universities 2019 held Trinity as the most innovative university in Ireland. In addition, the Pitchbook Universities Report 2020 ranked Trinity 1st in Europe for producing entrepreneurs for the sixth consecutive year.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

The 2018-19 data of the institution shows a positive gender diversity with 53% female and 47 % male students. Of the total number of students, approximately 17,000 students belong to countries outside the European Union of which 67% were pursuing undergraduate courses. In 2021, Trinity was ranked 1st and 8th among the most international universities in the European Union and in the world respectively, by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. With regard to employability, the QS World University Rankings for Graduate Employability 2020 ranked Trinity 1st in Ireland for alumni outcomes and employer reputation. Trinity alumni work at leading organizations around the world including EY, Google, Bank of Ireland, Salesforce, Arthur Cox to name a few.

COVID-19 Response

As the world is beginning to heal from the damages dealt through COVID-19, Trinity College of Dublin is taking the necessary steps to ensure the safety and health of its students and staff. Currently, a team of researchers are planning out and devising a hybrid model of learning, which will be implemented in the upcoming semester. The latest Covid-19 updates, in relation to the situation at Trinity as of May 17, 2021, have been mentioned below:

  • The campus will remain open only for those who need to be there, which includes residents, pre-approved visitors, students with pre-booked time slots in the libraries and other spaces, essential researchers and essential staff.

  • All international students arriving in Ireland from high-risk states/countries will have to pre-book accommodation in a designated quarantine facility. They would also have to pre-pay for the same.

  • There will not be any reduction of tuition fees for the upcoming academic year.

  • All undergraduate semester two assessments will be conducted online.

  • A hybrid approach is still in place to deliver courses, which means a blend of both online and face-to-face classes.

  • Those who are fully vaccinated and have required documents to prove the same do not have to complete mandatory hotel quarantine when they arrive in Ireland.
