Applicants must have at least ONE of the following:

a) Gained NCEA level 3 and met New Zealand university entrance requirements;

  1. Previous primary and secondary study in English as evidenced by completion of one of the following at schools with English as the language of instruction in countries with a student visa approval rate of at least 80 per cent:

Specific Admission

  1. Interviews, submissions and/or auditions will be required for all applicants. The interview/audition stage shall consist of a combination of demonstrations and ex-ercises requiring the applicant to demonstrate his or her ability to carry out specific tasks individually and as part of a group. The exact nature of the tasks involved will be related to the major of the degree into which the student is seeking entry, and will be notified to applicants at least 14 working days prior to the interview/audition.
  2. A completed medical declaration must be submitted for all applicants. A student cannot be admitted to the Degree if they have a medical condition that will impact on their ability to participate in the physical and practical aspects of the selected major.

Specific Admission

  1. Successfully completed a relevant endorsement of the Certificate in Applied Technology, or
  2. Successfully completed a national certificate at Level 3 or higher, or a comparable qualification, in a discipline relevant to the applicant’s specialisation in the degree or equivalent.
  3. All applicants, apart from those with the Unitec Certificate in Applied Technology, must demonstrate their practical abilities by providing the selection committee with a small portfolio of evidence. This portfolio must demonstrate an applicant’s ability to:
    • Produce and work to simple work plans
    • Select and use materials, tools and equipment
    • Identify problems and design solutions to problems
    • Carry out general repairs and /or produce useful products
  4. The achievements demonstrated in the portfolio will be broadly equivalent to the practical skills required in the Unitec Certificate in Applied Technology. The portfolio may include such items as computer-generated material, photos, models, diagrams, designs, plans, explanations, reports, and letters of support. The portfolio will also include an explanation of the items submitted.
  5. Where a student’s English language entry requirements meet those required for the Certificate in Applied Technology but do not meet those for the Bachelor of Applied Technology, entry may be gained into a degree when the student has completed the Certificate in Applied Technology (or equivalent) and has achieved a ‘B’ grade average. Where a student achieves a pass grade average below than a ‘B’ in the Certificate in Applied Technology, entry may be granted into the Bachelor of Applied Technology at the discretion of the programme committee.
  6. Electrotechnology Specialisation Admission Specific Requirements:
    Applicants who have gained 42 credits at NCEA Level 3 as defined in the Generic Bachelor Regulations, and who can demonstrate a total of 20 credits at level 3 in any TWO of the following subjects, may present their credits as their portfolio as in (3) above, for consideration for entry into the degree:
    Level 3 NCEA Domains (20 credits from any TWO domains):
    • Physics;
    • Mathematics with Calculus;
    • Statistics and Modelling.
  7. Automotive Specialisation Admission Specific Requirements:

The admission requirements set out in the Bachelors Generic Regulations do not apply to this programme. To be admitted to this programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:

a) complete a self-declaration of criminal conviction(s) and any medical condition(s) that may prevent full participation in the programme and/or prevent registration with a regulatory authority (as applicable); and

b) sign a consent form allowing a Ministry of Justice convictions database search by a third party (in this instance Unitec Institute of Technology). Any applicants with undeclared convictions identified will be referred to the Admissions Committee; and

c) provide evidence of immune status; and

d) be able to participate in the practical aspects of the degree; and

e) be supported by two confidential testimonials and/or character references, e.g., school, or community organisation; or employer/supervisor; and

f) have completed an approved First Aid course; and

g) An applicant for the degree who is transferring from an undergraduate nursing programme at another tertiary education institution will only be considered for selection upon receipt of a confidential report from the institution from which they are transferring.

Eligibility

General Admission :-

Applicants must have:

  1. a recognised degree; OR
  2. a professional qualification in a relevant discipline; OR
  3. the ability to demonstrate competencies equivalent to a graduate from qualifications 1 or 2.

PROGRAMME SPECIFIC ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS :-

To be admitted to this programme, applicants must also meet the requirements set out in this schedule.

To be admitted to this programme, all applicants must meet the requirements set out in the Graduate Certificate Generic Regulations. There are no additional programme-specific admission requirements.

English language entry requirements for international students for whom English is not their first language:

Applicants must have at least ONE of the following:

a) Gained NCEA level 3 and met New Zealand university entrance requirements;

b) Clear evidence that they satisfy one of the following criteria for existing English proficiency:

  1. Previous primary and secondary study in English as evidenced by completion of one of the following at schools with English as the language of instruction in countries with a student visa approval rate of at least 80 per cent:
    • Completion of all primary education and at least three years of secondary education (that is, the equivalent of New Zealand Forms 3 to 7 or years 9 to 13), or
    • Completion of at least five years of secondary education (that is, the equivalent of New Zealand Forms 3 to 7 or years 9 to 13)
  2. Previous tertiary study in English: clear evidence of completion of a tertiary qualification of at least three years’ duration with English as the language of instruction in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, South Africa, the United Kingdom or the United States.
  3. Achievement of the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA)

    c) Achieved, within the preceding two years, at least one of the English proficiency outcomes listed below:

  1. NZ Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) (Academic) (Level 5)
  2. An overall IELTS band score (Academic Format) of 6.5 with a min band score of 6 (reading and writing) and 5.5 (speaking and listening). The IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form.
  3. An overall TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT) score of 550 (essay 5 TWE) OR an overall TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) Score of 60 (writing 20)
  4. University of Cambridge English Examinations: FCE, or FCE for schools, or CAE, or CPE with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill
  5. Pearson Test of English PToE (Academic) with a score of 50.

Specific Admission

To be admitted to this programme, all applicants must meet the following requirements in addition to the requirements set out in the Bachelors Generic Regulations:

  1. provide a personal written statement describing the nature of and background to their motives for wishing to study for the degree; and
  2. demonstrate minimum competence in English either through:
    i. at least 12 NCEA credits at Level 3 in English; or
    ii. a grade of C or better in University Bursary English; or
    iii. an overall IELTS (Academic) score of at least 6.5, with no band score lower than 6.0; or
    iv. a TOEFL score of no less than 575, or equivalent.
