History, Affiliations & Rankings

Golden Gate University (GGU or Golden Gate), founded in 1901, is a private, non-profit, university situated in San Francisco, California. In 1972, the college expanded itself to University Level. In 1979, a new "west wing" of the university was constructed, nowadays most of the classroom space is located there. The institution has been accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) since 1959. US News & World Report Ranked GGU's online bachelor's programme #63 out of 1,200 programmes evaluated by them. Washington Monthly Magazine Ranked GGU #1 in the list of Best Colleges for Adult Learners three years in a row (2016, 2017, 2018).

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

GGU specialises in providing education through its schools of law, business, taxation, and accounting. The GGU campus is located in San Francisco’s financial district. It maintains three satellite teaching/learning sites namely the Los Angeles learning site, Silicon Valley learning site, and Seattle learning site. The Golden Gate University has two huge Libraries. While the Business Library is used by the entire university community, the Law Library is used by the students, staff, and faculty at the School of Law. 

Accomplishments & Alumni 

University's financial planning programme is in association with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards and students completing either the Masters in Financial Planning or the Graduate certificate in Financial Planning are also qualified to sit for the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification exam.

Countless personalities have been associated with Golden Gate University. Most notable personalities include Richard Belluzzo - CEO, Quantum Corp, and former President and COO of Microsoft, Joan Blades - co-founder, MoveOn.org, and J. J. Jelincic - former president of the California State Employees Association and CalPERS board member.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

Approximately 67 percent of students are in various graduate business programmes, 12 percent are in undergraduate programmes and law students make 21 percent of the attendees. In 2019, more than 80% of the student population came from South, and South-Central Asia. Gender distribution is approximately 64% male and 36% female. GGU students have been hired by Stokke®, Andersen LLC, as well as University of California, San Francisco.
