IPU counselling 2026 is a fully online, centralised seat allocation process completed in five stages. Each stage has a fixed deadline — missing any one of them results in loss of eligibility for that round.
Stage 1: Registration and Document Upload
Candidates register on ipu.admissions.nic.in using their JEE Main, IPU CET, or CLAT credentials. B.Tech, LLM, and LLB candidates pay the non-refundable Rs. 2,500 counselling fee. All candidates upload educational and category documents during this stage.
Stage 2: Choice Filling
Candidates fill college–programme preferences in order of priority. This step is compulsory — no choices means no allotment. Candidates can fill up to 50 preferences and modify them any number of times before the deadline. The system uses the last saved preference order at close.
Stage 3: Seat Allotment
GGSIPU processes all registered candidates' ranks and preferences and publishes round-wise seat allotment result on the portal. Allotment is based on JEE Main rank (B.Tech), IPU CET rank (other programmes), preference order, domicile category, and seat availability.
Stage 4: Respond to Allotment (Freeze, Float, or Withdraw)
Allotted candidates must respond within the stipulated deadline. Freezing confirms the seat. Floating retains the current seat while keeping the candidate eligible for a higher preference in the next round. Withdrawing cancels the seat permanently.
Stage 5: Fee Payment and College Reporting
Candidates who freeze must pay the admission fee online and report to their allotted college for document verification within the reporting window. Admission is confirmed only after successful verification.
Candidates who float move into Round 2 and the Sliding Round, repeating Stages 3 and 4 until they freeze or exhaust available rounds. Read more about GGSIPU Admission 2026

B.Tech is the most sought-after programme in GGSIPU counselling. Admission to B.Tech (Code 131) is based entirely on JEE Main 2026 Paper I rank — IPU CET is not applicable for this programme.
GGSIPU's B.Tech seats are distributed across its own University School of ICT (USICT) and 40+ affiliated engineering colleges in Delhi NCR. Allotment depends on four factors in this order: JEE Main All India Rank, date of birth (older candidate preferred in case of tie), random draw if still tied, and the candidate's submitted preference order.
Delhi vs non-Delhi quota: B.Tech seats are split between Delhi domicile candidates and non-Delhi (All India) candidates. Delhi domicile candidates have a significant advantage — closing ranks for the same branch and college are typically much lower under the Delhi quota. Candidates with Delhi domicile should fill choices under both quotas wherever available.
Who is not eligible: Candidates with compartment or supplementary exams pending on the date of registration are not eligible. Eligibility is restored only after qualifying the exam, subject to the registration window being open.
Registration for GGSIPU centralised online counselling 2026 is open at ipu.admissions.nic.in. The process differs slightly depending on whether you are applying through a national-level test (B.Tech, LLM, LLB) or IPU CET.

For B.Tech, LLM, and LLB candidates (National Level Test):
These candidates must complete fresh registration along with fee payment.
For CET-qualified candidates (BCA, BBA, B.Ed, B.Com (H), BA JMC, LE B.Tech, BA English/Economics):
These candidates have already applied through IPU CET 2026 and do not pay the Rs. 2,500 fee — they only need to enrol and upload documents.
Important for all candidates: Enter your name, date of birth, and father's name exactly as on your JEE/CET/CLAT portal. Mismatches are the most common cause of registration failures. Candidates with compartment or supplementary exams pending are not eligible until they qualify.
Choice filling is compulsory to be eligible for the IPU seat allotment. Candidates who register but do not fill choices receive no seat allotment in any round.
Correction window: Candidates can edit uploaded documents and correct permissible fields on the application form until June 17 at 11:59 PM under the Correction/Edit window on the portal.
After choice filling closes, GGSIPU will process and publish the Round 1 seat allotment on ipu.admissions.nic.in. The allotment date will be notified on the official website, candidates should check the portal regularly after June 17.
Once Round 1 allotment is declared, each candidate must choose one of three responses within the stipulated deadline:
Response | What It Means | What Happens Next |
Freeze | Accept allotted seat; exit all future rounds | Pay admission fee within deadline; report to college for document verification |
Float | Accept current seat; stay eligible for a higher preference in Round 2 | Seat retained; automatically considered for upgrade if a better option is available |
Withdraw | Exit GGSIPU counselling entirely | Allotted seat cancelled; Rs. 2,500 participation fee not refunded |
Candidates who do not respond within the Round 1 deadline forfeit their seat and are excluded from subsequent rounds.
GGSIIPU cutoff 2026 will be published at ipu.admissions.nic.in after Round 1 allotment. The tables below show 2025 closing ranks, the best available reference for filling choices. If your rank is better (lower number) than the 2025 closing rank, that choice is realistic. Cutoffs typically relax 20–30% between Round 1 and Round 3 as seats vacate, factor this in when floating.
