*M.A. Psychology scores the qualifying degree and subject test on a combined raw scale instead of normalising them to 100, so this figure is not comparable to the other rows. These numbers show the topper in each list, not the admission cutoff. How the PU CET PG Merit List Is Prepared: Weightage and Formula

Panjab University does not select PG candidates on the entrance test score alone. The final composite merit score usually combines:

• PU-CET (PG) entrance exam score — carries significant weightage, generally around 50%
• Qualifying (UG/Bachelor's) degree marks — the remaining weightage, generally around 50%
• Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) — for several postgraduate and professional programmes, a further weightage (commonly cited around 7.5% each, or built into a separate final round) is added after the written test-based merit list, especially for professional courses like MBA, Mass Communication, and certain law programmes.

A simplified way to estimate your composite score is:

Merit Score = (PU-CET PG raw score ÷ total CET marks) × 50 + (UG aggregate percentage) × 0.5

Exact weightages can differ from department to department, since several PG programmes at Panjab University are run by individual academic departments that may apply their own additional criteria (such as relevant subject background, sports quota, or NCC/NSS weightage) on top of the base CET-PG score. Tie-Breaker Criteria

Objections to the tentative merit list must be raised by August 7, 2026, the same day the official schedule opens the objection window.

1. Log in to the admission portal with the registered application number and password.
2. Check the email sent by the department for the exact rejection remark if a category or weightage claim was rejected.
3. Prepare the correct or missing document, such as a caste certificate, PU alumni proof, or a gap-year affidavit.
4. Re-upload the document on the portal against the rejected field before the end of the day on August 7, 2026.
5. Recheck the merit list PDF after August 9, 2026, when the verification team finishes reviewing all resubmissions.

What Happens After the Tentative Merit List?

The tentative list is followed by a provisional merit list on August 11, then counselling or a final admission list for most courses between August 12 and 24, 2026.

• Departments that require an interview, GD-PI or physical counselling upload their own schedule separately; most were uploaded between August 3 and 6, 2026, for sessions between August 12 and 14.
• A few courses, such as M.Sc. Human Genomics and M.Sc. Environment Science, admit directly on merit with no physical counselling round.
• Selected candidates report with original documents on the date and time given in their department's schedule. The final approved admission list is uploaded on the date the Dean of University Instruction approves it, by August 24, 2026 at the latest.
