History, Affiliations & Rankings

Established in 1824, Philadelphia University is a private university located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was founded to educate textile workers and managers. In 1941, school got the right to award baccalaureate degrees and changed its name to Philadelphia Textile Institute. In 1999 board of trustees changed the name of the institution to Philadelphia University (Thomas Jefferson University). In 2017 TJU integrated with Philadelphia University and became a comprehensive institute of Professional Education, research and Human impact. The University is affiliated to NCAA Division II and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. TJU is ranked tied at #153 among National Universities, and #64 among Best Value Schools by the US News and World Report 2020 edition.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

Spread across 100-acres, the university has different housing facilities for foreign and inland students. The university has two campuses: East Fall and Downtown and a Research Center: Manayunk Research Center. Students also have the facility of various outdoor games like basketball, softball, volleyball, and other indoor health and recreational facilities. The most sought after offers courses are Accounting, Architecture, Health Economics, Biotechnology, Business Management, Biochemistry, Biology, Fashion Design, Finance, etc.

Accomplishments & Alumni 

The Jefferson sports teams are known as the Jefferson Rams. The university is known for its men's basketball program, particularly coach Herb Magee, who became the most successful men's basketball coach in NCAA history on February 23, 2010, and was inducted into the Class of 2011 of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Notable alumni include William Williams Keen, the first neurosurgeon to successfully remove a brain tumor. Another famous alumnus is Chevalier Jackson is known as the father of Endoscopy and John Heysham, the inventor of the heart-lung machine.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

University has 63.5 % white students and 9.7% Asian and 8.4% Black or African American, Its ethic diversity rank is 1523 out of 2718 which proves that the university is quite welcoming towards international students. The university is majorly dominated by female students as they comprise 83% of enrolment whereas only 17% of students are male.

Companies like PEP BOYs, Axalta Coating Systems, Independence Blue Cross, etc. regularly visits TJU for recruitments, and the majority of students of the University get jobs in Philadelphia.
