Based in London, UK, the University of Westminster is a public research university. It was established in the year 1838 as the Royal Polytechnic Institution and was the first polytechnic higher education institution to ever open in the UK. The formal Royal charter was conferred to the institution in 1839 and formally became the University of Westminster in the year 1992. Some common affiliations of the university include the International Association of Universities (IAU), EQUIS, Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), European Universities Association (EUA), Universities UK, etc. The University of Westminster has been featured in many national rankings like the Guardian, Complete, Times, Sunday Times, and also in several other global rankings institutions such as QS World Rankings and the Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings. The QS World University Rankings 2021 recognised the University as the 25th best in the world for international students while THE Young Universities Rankings 2020 recognised the university 32nd worldwide for its International Outlook.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The University of Westminster has four main campuses, three of which are located in central London. These four campuses are the Regent Campus, the Marylebone Campus, the Cavendish Campus, and the Harrow Campus. The Regent Campus is the headquarters and houses the Westminster Law School and the library for the Faculty of Social Sciences. The Marylebone Campus was built in the 1960s and is home to the Westminster Business School, the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, and the Policy Studies Institute. The School of Engineering was also opened on this campus. The Cavendish Campus comprises the engineering, science, and computer laboratories. Whereas the Harrow Campus is the base for the courses of arts, media, and design. Students choosing to study at the University of Westminster can opt for undergraduate and postgraduate courses along with Degree apprenticeships, Research Degrees and short courses.

The University of Westminster has produced many famous experts in several fields over the years. It has a long list of successful alumni who owe their accomplishments to their alma mater. The alumni of the University of Westminster include a Nobel laureate in Medicine, scientists, the inventor of cordite, heads of state, mayors, politicians, Olympic medal winners, BAFTA and Oscar-winning filmmakers, winners of Grammy Awards, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, journalists, and poets. The graduates of the university have established themselves as notable and recognised personalities in almost all the fields, ranging from sports and entertainment to academia and science.

The University of Westminster has always promoted student diversity on its campuses. There are students from nearly 169 nationalities who have enrolled in the various programmes offered by the University of Westminster. Encouraging students to learn from each others culture has always been one of the many preachings of the university. There are a certain number of seats in every programme that are reserved solely for international students.

COVID-19 Response

The latest update released by the University of Westminster for AY 2021- 22 regarding its operations during the pandemic is as follows:

  • The University of Westminster has been following the Government guidance before to ensure the wellbeing of the University community. All decisions related to the education and on-campus services align within the governments rules and regulations for COVID-19.

  • The University of Westminster has given the flexibility to students to take as much time as they want in completing the application process for the upcoming academic term. However, students who are applying through UCAS will have to meet the application deadline to take part in the Fall 2021 admission process.

  • The University of Westminster is also accepting applications for accommodation facilities on campus for the September 2021 term through its online portal. Students can also contact the Student Accommodation team to avail assistance in this regard.

  • The University of Westminster also offers the students the option to defer admission for up to one year. Students can contact the Admissions Officer of the university if they wish to defer their application.

Scholarship for International Students 2021

The University of Westminster offers several scholarships to international students to help them in funding their studies. The scholarship is granted majorly based on three criteria like academic excellence, financial need and development potential. 

The scholarship awarded is highly competitive and it is offered only to most deserving students. 

Every year, the University of Westminster updates the list of scholarships offered to international students and all information related to scholarship can be found on the scholarship search page of the university website.

The scholarship application for January 2021 is now closed. The application for September 2021 will be accepted from January 2021 end and all information related to it will be updated on the official website.
