Students who are in the final year of their course can register with the placement cell to receive campus placement and pre-placement training. The Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology placement cell organises classes for competitive examination training, career guidance, and soft skill development. Students also receive help in resume building, internships, and industrial visits from the placement cell. The SMIT placement cell has adequate infrastructure to provide pre-placement training and campus recruitment. The infrastructure of the placement cell includes video conferencing facilities, a seminar Hall, a conference room, a lounge for group discussions, and panel rooms for conducting one-on-one interviews.

Students get one full semester (six months) worth of time to spend in Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology Internships. Students can opt for summer and winter internships to transform the holidays into valuable work experiences. Students who participate in the internships can earn a stipend while they work.
