Pragjyotish College - PC
Pragjyotish College was established on 1 st September 1954, seven years after Independence, it became a beacon light of learning and a symbol of aspirations for the common people of Assam, raring to build a new nation. Pandit Tirthanath Sarma, eminent scholar and litterateur, responded to and actively participated in the nation building by taking charge as the founder principal of Pragjyotish College. From its modest inception as an arts college, Pragjyotish College has now developed into one of the premier institutions of higher education in Guwahati. At present, it is a well-known full-fledged degree college, imparting higher education in Arts, Science and Commerce streams. The College also has two post - graduate departments, viz. Assamese and Tourism Management. It is affiliated to Gauhati University and registered under 2(F) and 12 (B) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. The College has the distinction of being assessed and accredited twice by the NAAC in 2003 and 2010 respectively and was placed in "Grade B in a Four-point scale", valid up to 2016. The modern teaching methodology assists the students in getting an all around view of engineering, technology and the entrepreneur world. The diligent faculty team of the college possesses hands-on experience and up to date knowledge of their subject and area of expertise. The infrastructure and facilities of Pragjyotish College consists of spread-out campus alongside various amenities in the form of library, computer center, classrooms with proper teaching and learning aids, medical facilities etc. The institute seeks to place each of its students in an organization/ company of great repute.
The Career Counseling Cell of the college was constituted in 2001 with the following aims and objectives : (i) To provide information regarding higher study options and careers. (ii) To create awareness about self-employment and entrepreneurship career options. (iii) To provide basic information about opportunities for self-employment and entrepreneurship and support system available. (iv) To Provide assistance to students for recruitment in various organizations from time to time. (v) To Provide job-oriented training to students seeking jobs. In addition to the Career Counseling Cell, there are other counseling cells, run by some of the departments.
