Sathaye College - SC Mumbai - SC

Parle Tilak Vidyalaya Association founded in 1921 along with a school established Parle College, with a vision to establish an institution of higher learning. This Arts and Science college immediately attracted large number of students and with Principal C. B. Joshi as the founding Principal, the college flourished. He pursued academic excellence relentlessly. Dr. K. S. Nargund, doyen of organic chemistry put the college name in the research area of chemistry. In 1965 after the sudden demise of Principal C. B. Joshi, Prof. P. M. Potdar, an economist took over as Principal under his able guidance the college sealed new heights of glory. A number of new subjects like Microbiology & Statistics were included in the degree college to meet the ever growing demand for job oriented courses. Prof. R. G. Sohoni took over after Principal Potdars’ retirement, who had already won the Best Teacher Award from the Govt. of Maharashtra.‘Parle College’ was renamed as ‘Sathaye College’ in 1993 because of the generous contribution from the Sathaye foundation. Dr. S. V. Panse took charge as Principal in 1996 and continued to steer the college along the road to progress. When he was appointed as Director Board of College and University Development, University of Mumbai, Dr (Mrs.) K. S. Rege was appointed as the Principal in 2001.To equip the students for the 21st Century, new subjects and courses were introduced from time to time, like, B.Sc(I.T.), BMS, BMM along with M.Sc(I.T.) and Ph.D in Physics. She brought in an enthusiasm and an aim to be the best. Sathaye College Placements

The Placement and Career Guidance Cell of Sathaye College provides Placement assistance to Final Year Students of all streams. It is one of the few Colleges which has facilitated placement to Students of Commerce/Science/Arts apart from BMS, BMM and B.Sc (IT). Companies like T.C.S, Wipro, L&T Infotech, Tech Mahindra, Angel broking etc. and many others, have conducted Placement drives in the Campus and offered Jobs to more than 100 final year students of various streams in the academic year 2015-16. A training programme ‘Launch your Career’ which trains students in enhancing Employability Skills, has been initiated for Final year students from academic year 2016- 17.

    • A Book appreciation Club is formed every year to motivate students for Reading good books.
    • Cultural room is provided in the basement where Musical Instruments are preserved and student can practise there for various cultural programmes.

    • N.C.C. and N.S.S.: Separate rooms are provided for conducting their activities.
    • Sports:
      • Well equipped gymkhana with various indoor sports like Carom, Table tennis, Chess etc. & a fitness centre for the use of student & staff members.
      • College play ground.
      • PTVA’S playground near M.L. Dahanukar College.
    • The chemistry lab on the ground floor, B.Sc. IT lab on the second floor was fully renovated in the year 2006-07.
    • A new Auditorium for exclusive use of students’ association activities was built in 2007-08 on the third floor. In the same year, 60 new computers were installed in the renovated B.Sc. IT lab.
    • A fully air-conditioned professional use auditorium was constructed by replacing the old one on the ground floor. Also, other new facilities like “ASPA” room , staff room toilet , mezzanine for storage in staff room were created in 2008-09. A film club ‘Chitrayatri’ is also formed.
