Sanjay Ghodawat University was originally founded in 2009 and later recognized as Sanjay Ghodawat University in 2017 after receiving the required approvals from the relevant educational bodies of the government of India. Sanjay Ghodawat University has all the approvals from institutions like AICTE, UGC, NAAC, COA and PCI and is ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 21001:2018 dual certified in June 2019.

Mr Sanjay Ghodawat, the founder of the group, strongly believes in uplifting the overall standards of the country and well well-being of all citizens and not just the Sanjay Ghodawat University students. He has a keen interest in social welfare and has provided financial assistance to many families on a lot of occasions, such as donating Rs 5 lakhs to help the family of Shahid Rajendra Tupare.

Professor Arun Patil is currently the Vice-Chancellor of SGU who has immense academic experience working as a dean in Australia for the Victorian Institute of Technology. Student Projects - SGU has formed an Incubation & Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IEDC) with the main goal to nurture and groom the students' entrepreneurial skills and create future entrepreneurs for the country. Several projects are underway and specifically coming from the final year engineering students. This cell consists of faculty as well as other industry experts who gauge the potential in the idea and the appropriate market it belongs to before proceeding with the seed funding and giving it the green light. This IEDC wing of the university covers the raw material, resources and financial assistance once the projects get the relevant approvals.

The most recent student project that has received more than Rs 30,000 is the 'Automatic and Smart Toilets using IoT and Image Processing for Smart Cities', which was supported by the Incubation & Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IEDC).

The SGU placement report 2023 has not been released yet. The SGU Placement cell has three components: training, education, and development. Training focuses on preparing the students to the bare minimum of graduation standard after doing thorough market research; the education component is more towards aptitude and conceptual training teaching reasoning and logic implementation. The last part, development, gives the students the decision-making and analysis skills to ensure overall personality development is done.

• SGU offers merit-based scholarships, and around 15% of the fee is waived off.
• Special waiver for bachelor of architecture course depending on previous grades and entrance test results. 100% of the fee is waived off for a certain percentage of rank holders.
