History, Affiliations & Rankings

Sheffield Hallam University (SHU), is a Public Research University, in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. It started in 1843 as Sheffield School of Design, and in 1850 it was renamed to Sheffield School of Arts. In 1969, the school merged with the city’s College of Technology to form the Sheffield Polytechnic, and in 1976 with the merger of the city’s two teacher training schools, it was renamed to Sheffield City Polytechnic. In 1992, it got University Status and now it is known as Sheffield Hallam University. Sheffield Hallam University is affiliated by the Association of Commonwealth Universities. The  QS Global World Ranking of SHU is #801-1000, and in the UK it is ranked 26. 

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

SHU is the 11th largest University in the UK. It offers courses in Architecture, Arts and Design, Business, Computing, Engineering, Languages, Law, Mathematics, Marketing, Science, Sports Science and Engineering, Teaching, Tourism, Hospitality, Nursing, Media. Sheffield Hallam University also offers Part-Time and Full-Time courses, for these subjects. SHU has been divided into three Colleges College of Business, Technology and Engineering (BTE), College of Social Sciences and Arts (SSA) and College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences (HWLS). 
  
Accomplishments & Alumni

SHU, in 2015 won RIBA Architectural Award, and in 2014, Yorkshire Region Award for Structural Excellence. During the same year, the university also won the British Criminology Society’s Award in Teaching Criminology and Criminal Justice. 
Notable Alumni of SHU includes Abdul Razzak ( Malaysian Film Director), Miriam Cates (MP UK), Nick Park (Animator), Jo Guest (English Model), David Threlfall (Actor), Kim Noble (Comedian), and Paul Morrison (British Artist).

University has nearly 31000 students with 4500 international students which proves that the university is quite welcoming towards students coming from different parts of the globe. Here female students are in the majority and constitute 56% of overall strength.
