    Tamil Nadu Open University Overview

    The Tamil Nadu Open University Chennai was established in the year 2002 by the State Government of Tamil Nadu to promote ‘Open Learning and Distance Education Systems’ in the education system. Tamil Nadu Open University admissions for the academic year 2022-23 are open now. The last date to apply is October 31, 2022. The hall ticket for the Term End Examinations July 2022 is available on the official website of Tamil Nadu Open University.     The sole objective of the TNOU is to strengthen and introduce degree, diploma, and certificate courses that can fulfil candidates' employment needs and, at the same time, contribute to the economy of the state and country. To enhance employability opportunities by upgrading knowledge, training, and skills in the context of innovations, research, and discovery in all fields of human endeavours. The overall mission is to transform an individual so that they will be able to attain the heights of success and satisfaction. 

    Tamil Nadu Open University courses are accessible to everyone who wants to pursue higher education. Courses at TNOU Chennai are classified as UG, PG, diploma, and certificate courses. Interested candidates can seek TNOU admission annually. Also, the Tamil Nadu Open University scholarships offer a couple of scholarships for students from various categories. 

    The TNOU has grown widely in the past 16 years. It is currently offering 218 programmes across various disciplines and skills through the medium of short-term certificate courses up to postgraduate level. It runs 13 academic schools, 5 support divisions, 8 regional centres, and 2 constituent communities; and a chain of networks with 536 centres, including 68 learner support centres.

    The Tamil Nadu Open University is recognised by the University Grants Commission - Distance Education Bureau, National Council for Teacher Education and Rehabilitation Council of India. The university has signed MoUs with various institutes at the national and international levels. It is in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), and the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE). It has signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, which resulted in offering 16 agriculture-related programmes at a distance through the Krishi Vigyan Kendra of the TNAU, to target 4000 unemployed youth in 2016-2017.

    It is the only institute in the state that has signed an MoU with the National Skill Development Council (NSDC) and has made its vocational programmes in collaboration with the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF). The TNOU placement cell also works throughout the year to provide better employment facilities to the final year degree candidates. The alumni of TNOU are placed among the top market players in the country and are growing.

    TNOU Admissions

    The Tamil Nadu Open University application process is completely virtual. The notification for TNOU admission into various courses has been released. Tamil Nadu Open University admissions for the academic year 2022-23 have started and the last date to apply is October 31, 2022. The application form for TNOU is available on the college website, where selection criteria for different courses are mentioned, and it may vary based on the course. To know more details about the TNOU admission process, please go through the below-given points.

    • On the Home page, students can find the online admission option through which first-time users can register to seek admission into the institute. After clicking that option, a screen will appear with three options: Applicant Login, Study Centre Login, and Regional Centre Login. Students have to select applicant login and fill in the personal and course details.
    • Under personal details applicant’s name, date of birth, gender and email-ID, mobile no, and the proof has to be submitted. Students have to give a valid and active mobile number and e-mail Id because all the confirmation details and other details will be sent to the given e-mail Id and mobile number.
    • Students need to submit copies of the certificate, photograph, Aadhar card, and self-attested signature of the applicant with the Tamil Nadu Open University application form. The certificate should be in JPEG File. Students should upload scanned copies of recently taken colour photographs and the applicant’s signature. 
    • Those who are availing of the scholarship must submit a community certificate. Those selected will be informed and allotted enrolment number and sent an identity card with the applicant's address.
    • Each course has certain eligibility criteria. Those who fit into the bill can apply the application procedure through Tamil Nadu Open University.
    • The complete details of admission are available under the admission tab, including details of the admitted students.
    • Study materials will be issued for the complete course duration, and in any case, it is not received by the candidate. The students are requested to contact the concerned person if there is any change in address student needs to inform the university and make the necessary changes by submitting the prescribed form by paying a fee of Rs 100 using a debit card or demand draft drawn.

    TNOU Placements

    Tamil Nadu Open University placement cell provides employment opportunities to all the students who are studying at the university. The university has a dedicated committee named "Student Welfare and Placement Cell (SWPC)" which works for this purpose. The TNOU placement cell is regularly partnering and signing MoUs with various other institutions and top market players to understand the recruiting trends of the market. On the basis of that, candidates are provided training and supported to perform well in the placement drives. The Tamil Nadu Open University has offered many employment opportunities to its students in the past years.

    TNOU Campus Facilities

    The TNOU campus offers various facilities to the students who are studying at the university. The campus is very clean and offers a friendly environment to the candidates. The TNOU library has a collection of a wide range of books and well-furnished laboratories. The women's cell of Tamil Nadu Open University facilities organises workshops, Debates, and cultural programs to enhance the awareness of women.
