The University of Liverpool is one of the most famous and prestigious universities in Liverpool, England. It is a public university which was initially founded as a college in the year 1881. The University of Liverpool gained its royal charter in 1903 and was able to start awarding degrees after that. It is also known to be one of the six original 'red brick' civic universities. The university consists of three faculties which are organised into 35 departments and schools. The University of Liverpool has many academic affiliations like those with the Russell Group, EUA, AACSB, N8 Group, NWUA, EASN, CDIO, and Universities UK. In fact, it is a founding member of the Russell Group and the N8 Group for research collaboration.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The University of Liverpool is located on a single urban campus which occupies an area of 100 acres. There are 192 non-residential buildings on the university campus which house 114 teaching areas, 69 lecture theatres, and research facilities. The main campus of the University of Liverpool is divided into three faculties. These faculties are Humanities and Social Sciences, Health and Life Sciences, and Science and Engineering. Around 230 degree courses are offered at the University of Liverpool across 103 subjects. The Wirral Peninsula contains the Ness Botanical Gardens and the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (Leahurst). The university also had a marine biology research station earlier but it was closed in 2006. The University of Liverpool has 51 residential buildings that are situated on or near the campus and provide a total of 3,385 rooms for students on a catered or self-catering basis. The university's original red brick building, the Victoria Building, which is a major landmark, has recently been restored as the Victoria Gallery and Museum.

There are many globally recognised alumni of the University of Liverpool who have blazed a trail in many different sectors. Ten Nobel prize winners have graduated from the University of Liverpool. The university has also produced many corporate wizards who are now the CEOs of leading companies like Tesla, the Coca Cola Company, Motorola, ARM Holding, GlobalFoundries, etc. Many students of the University of Liverpool have become famous faces in the entertainment industry. The university has around 7,700 international students who are enrolled in the various programmes offered at the university campus. Additionally, there are many students from different countries who are pursuing online programmes provided by the University of Liverpool as well. There is an International Support Team which was founded by the university to be dedicated to solving all the issues that students who have taken admission from other countries face at the university campus.

COVID 19 Response 2021

The latest update on the teaching and learning programme at the University of Liverpool for the AY 2021- 22 is as follows: 

  • The University of Liverpool is likely to welcome students on campus after the UK Government has announced on campus return of students for in-person learning and teaching. Until then, the students can explore the university online and sign up to the Undergraduate Virtual Open Week.

  • Currently, staff and students of the University of Liverpool studying and working on campus are required to take the regular quick-results lateral flow tests. 

  • The university also offers facilities for COVID testing of students and staff for free. The results will also be delivered within 24 hours.

  • Strict social distancing measures have been implemented such as social distancing markers and study spaces, teaching schedules to reduce foot traffic, availability of two free cloth face masks and much more. Library facilities will be available, however, on a restricted basis.

Vice-Chancellor's International Attainment Scholarship

  • This scholarship is offered to any non-EU student enrolled in a programme offered by the University of Liverpool.
  • Candidates are not required to apply separately. The University will automatically consider students who meet the criteria.

Eligibility:

  • Candidates must belong to any country outside of the EU and should be enrolled in a full-time non-clinical undergraduate programme.
  • Aspirants should have secured a A*AA+ grade in a UK A level exam or equivalent.
  • Candidates who have secured AAB in the A Level exams or equivalent are also eligible for the scholarship, but at a reduced amount.

Amount: £2,500 fee reduction in the first year for A*AA+ securing candidates. £2,000 fee reduction in the first year for AAB securing candidates.
 

University of Liverpool First Class Scholarship

  • The scholarship is offered to non-EU students who maintain a 70%, first class average or above in the first year of study.
  • Students are automatically considered for the scholarship. There is no need to apply separately for the scholarship.

Eligibility:

  • Candidates should be liable to pay the full-tuition fee as specified for an international student.
  • Interested applicants are required to have started their course of study no less than a year before applying for the scholarship.
  • Aspirants are also required to have secured a 70% overall average, in the first attempt, in the first year of study itself.
  • Students enrolled in Dental Surgery A200, Dental Surgery (Graduate Entry)A201, Medicine A100, Medicine Graduate Entry A101, Veterinary Sciences D100, Veterinary Sciences with Intercalated Honours Year D101, are not eligible for the scholarship.

Amount: £1,000 tuition fee reduction for each subsequent year of study, provided the candidate is able to maintain a 70% class average.
 

Sir Ratan Tata Scholarship

  • This scholarship is offered to Indian students with the intent of studying in the one-year Masters in the field of Development Studies, focusing on Development Economics and Technology Studies.

Eligibility:

  • Candidates should be enrolled in a one-year Masters programme in Development Studies, with a special focus on Development Economics and Technology Studies.
  • Candidates should be Indian nationals and should not be more than 35 years of age.
  • Candidates should have an excellent academic record with some kind of proof of extra-curricular activities.

Amount: Full tuition fee for the programme and living expenses.

Application Process:

  • Candidates will be asked to apply via Sir Ratan Tata and Navajbai Tata Trust.

Chevening Scholarships

  • Offered to all students who are enrolled in a Masters programme and have displayed a potential for leadership in the future.
  • There is a fee cap, which is applied to all MBA programmes that require the candidates to cover any additional tuition costs over £18,000. You will receive all other additional allowances.

Eligibility:

  • The scholarship is open to students from all disciplines and fields of study, studying in a One-year Masters programme.

Amount: Full tuition fee coverage along with a stipend to cover the living expenses.
