About Master of Design

Master of Design (MDes) is a two-year master’s programme that offers knowledge and training about how to invent and create new designs for consumers. The course helps candidates understand the impact of technology on design and how to make these designs and to make them user-friendly. During the master’s programme, candidates learn about various design specializations such as architectural designs, automation designs, fashion designs and others.

Master of Design can only be pursued by the candidates after completing the graduation level qualification of 4 years. MDes course helps candidates develop their research skills, enhance their experimental practice, construction techniques, equipment and material, and portfolio skills about their respective specialization in design. It also opens up the door for numerous employment opportunities across areas such as the fashion industry, textile mills, stores, corporate offices, jewellery manufacturing companies etc.

MDes Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the MDes course, students need to meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree with Design/ Fine Arts/ Applied Arts or B.Arch. or B.Plan. or B Construction Management or BTech (any Stream) or allied fields or their equivalent.

  • The Bachelor's degree must be of 4 years long duration.

  • The minimum aggregate required to pursue MDes from a recognised college or institute is generally around 50% to 60%

MDes Admission Process

The Mdes admission process is done in two ways - merit and entrance based. The candidates can check the detailed admission process for MDes course.

  • Entrance examination- The top colleges in India which offer admission in Mdes course give admission to the candidates on the basis of marks scored in entrance test. The most entranced exam for MDes is CEED. Some universities also consider scores of entrance test like NIFT, IICD, DAT, UPES and the universities  themselves conduct the examination. 
  • Registration Process: The candidates need to register themselves for the entrance exam in which they want to appear and generate their Login ID and Password. The candidates indeed have to fill up the application form successfully in order to be eligible for the entrance exam. They need to upload documents and pay a fee for the successful completion of the form.
  • Sit for Entrance Exam: The candidates should try to score good in the entrance test inorder to get the best college of their choice. 
  • Personal Interview: The PI is followed by an entrance exam. Once the result is out then the candidates have to clear the final round that is PI . This is the last and final round.
