About M.Sc Sericulture

M.Sc Sericulture is a post-graduate programme in the field of Agriculture that deals of rearing of silkworms and production of raw silk. Even though B.Sc Sericulture deals with a similar concept, the candidates may require to study M.Sc Sericulture for in-depth knowledge, techniques on the rearing of silkworms and better career prospects. In India, there are some universities, which offer M.Phil/ Ph.D in Sericulture and an M.Sc degree is mandatory to pursue Doctoral level courses. Almost, 15 universities/ institutes offer M.Sc Sericulture in India. Some of the top universities include Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Kakatiya University, Bangalore University, Mysore University etc. However, only 8-10 seats are offered in each institute and the competition for the admission is high. Eligibility 

The candidates must have a relevant B.Sc degree in Agriculture or associated fields (detailed eligibility can be checked below).

The candidates who have completed their education with 10+2+4 system can also apply for the degree. 

Minimum Aggregate Required

The candidate must acquire a minimum of 45%. However, the marks vary from Institute to Institute.

Admission Process

Various universities may conduct its own entrance exam or accept ICAR AIEEA PG exam scores.

Minimum Intake

Most universities enrol only 8-10 students in M.Sc Sericulture as per ICAR norms.

Project Works

Students enrolled in M.Sc Sericulture will have to complete project work in the final year.

Internship Opportunities

The internship opportunities are offered if the respective institute/ universities have tie-ups with silk manufacturing units.

M.Sc Sericulture Eligibility Criteria

One of the major advantages of Sericulture course is that candidates from any course in Agriculture are eligible. The detailed eligibility for the same is as follows -

  • Candidates who have passed a B.Sc degree in Sericulture are eligible for admission.
  • Candidates with B.Sc degree in Agriculture can also apply for admission in M.Sc Sericulture.
  • Candidates with B.Sc degree in Horticulture are eligible for admission in M.Sc Sericulture.

M.Sc Sericulture Admission Process

Candidates aspiring for admission in M.Sc Sericulture course will have to clear a national-level entrance exam, i.e., ICAR AIEEA PG. The candidates must note that the entrance exam score is accepted by some of the universities in India. Some state-level universities even conduct their own entrance exam for admission in M.Sc Sericulture.

M.Sc Sericulture Course Fees

As M.Sc Sericulture course is offered by the government or state universities, the course fee for the same is less. The average course fee for M.Sc Sericulture can be around Rs. 5000 while the maximum fee goes up to Rs. 15,000.
