No takers for 600 Seats After IIT’s First Round They came, they saw, but they did not join -this is what hold good to students who cleared (JEE Main) 2015- one of the toughest examinations of the country. 600 engineering aspirants have not accepted an IIT seat after the first round. Yesterday that is 12 July was the last day of for accepting seats in the IITs and the NITs in the first round. “There are 10,006 seats in the IITs this year and of these 600 remains vacant after the first round. The seat allocation for the second round starts from Monday. Students who did not appear in the first round are out of the admission process in the second round,” said an official of IIT Bombay. “After the first round IIT-Kharagpur, which received a large number of applicants, has 91 vacant seats. The clear picture will come after the final least is out”, said the same official. Bombay IIT got the highest number of takers from the top 100. 65 out of 100 top rankers secured their seats in IIT- Bombay this year whereas 58 from the top 100 joined last year. Bombay is followed by IIT - Delhi as the best choice with 30 students among top 100 ranks of JEE Advanced. While IIT Madras got 3 and IIT Kanpur got 2. Ironically IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Roorkee, IIT-Guwahati and the new IITs have not managed to get even a single student from the top 100 ranks. Computer Science at the IIT-Bombay is the most sought after choice of the JEE toppers. A lots of toppers have opted seats for computer science at IIT-Bombay (IIT-B) in the joint seat allocation.
