NIFT 2020 Counselling Process (Second Round of Counselling Announced)

NIFT has released the second round counselling schedule for admission to BDes, BFTech, MDes, MFM and MTech courses. The registration for the counselling round began from October 2, 2020, and the deadline for the same was until October 8, 2020. The detailed counselling dates of the design courses offered at the NIFT was likely to release on October 9, 2020 but due to some unforeseen delay, the schedule was announced on October 10, 2020. Registration for the NIFT first counselling round began from August 8, 2020. NIFT counselling for BDes admissions 2020 for all categories (General/ General- EWS/ SC/ ST/ OBC (NC), Children/Wards of NRI) took place from September 9-24, 2020 while the BDes counselling for PwD category was held on September 1, 2020.

NIFT counselling for MFM admissions 2020 took place from September 3-8, 2020 and counselling for MFTech admissions 2020 was scheduled for August 27, 2020. NIFT counselling for MDes admissions 2020 for all categories (General/ General- EWS/ SC/ ST/ OBC (NC), Children/Wards of NRI) took place from August 31 to September 2. 

Aspirants who are eligible to take part in NIFT counselling for BDes courses need to download their Call Letter from the official website of NIFT Entrance Exam 2020. Candidates can download their Call Letter by entering their Log-in details on the website link sent on their registered Email ID.

Candidates who are eligible to take part in the NIFT counselling for MFTech will have to download their call letters from the official website. The call letters can be downloaded by entering in the log-in details on the website link sent on the registered email id.

Those who have qualified the NIFT Entrance Exam 2020 must register for the counselling round as per the specified dates. While the counselling dates for B.Des and B.F.Tech courses will be shared soon, the NIFT admission cell has released the counselling dates for M.Des, M.F.Tech and M.F.M programmes. It is mandatory for the candidates to take part in the NIFT counselling process if they want to secure a seat in one of the NIFT campuses. 

NIFT Counselling will be organised in multiple rounds for 16 Campuses of NIFT.The counselling for NIFT 2020 will be held in an online mode and all the shortlisted applicants must carry a soft copy of the valid documents such as Proof of Date of Birth, Qualification (s), category certificate etc. The entire admission process is coordinated by NIFT Head Office.

The NIFT 2020 counselling will be conducted on the basis of marks secured by the candidates in the entrance exam and category. The availability of seats will also play an important role during the conduct of the NIFT 2020 counselling procedure. 

After the candidates are allocated seats they will be required to submit the entire fee at the NIFT campus, where they have been allocated seats, to confirm their admission. Post payment of fee, the nodal officer will issue a receipt or allotment letter which must be definitely collected by the candidates as a proof to their act of fee submission. Once the candidates accept the seats allocated in a particular round, they cannot take part in the next round of the seat allotment procedure. Detailed Process of NIFT Counselling 2020

  • Eligible candidates will have to fill an online counselling registration form on the official website of the institute.

  • The candidate will have to pay online Rs. 5,000/- as a fee to register for participation. 

  • For registration, candidates may use their credentials like Form Number, Date of Birth and Password (same as Application Form)

  • On successful registration, candidates will receive a system-generated letter containing detail of nodal officer and documents required at the time of counselling.

  • On the day of counselling, the candidate has to keep a soft copy of necessary documents for document verification and seat allocation. Applicants must note that the file size should not exceed more than 1 MB and the file format must be PDF/JPG/JPEG.

  • After verification of the documents, the allocation of seats will take place before the Nodal Officer of the Counselling Campus. The candidate will have to select a seat by clicking on the monitor in the presence of the Nodal Officer. 

  • After allotment of seats, the candidate will be issued an allotment letter duly signed by the Nodal Officer of the Campus.

  • No candidate will be allowed to leave the venue of counselling without the Admission Fee Receipt.

  • Candidates are advised to check the details as printed in the Admission Fee Receipt.

  • The physical presence of the candidate at the time of counselling is mandatory. If a candidate is unable to be physically present for the counselling due to unavoidable circumstances, he/she may authorise an individual to represent him/her at the Counselling.

  • All candidates will be called for counselling as per their Common Merit Rank and admission will be strictly on merit. 

  • The status of vacant seats will be updated on NIFT website every day. All candidates are recommended to check the NIFT website regularly and plan their counselling accordingly.

Persons with Disability (PwD)

Candidates with more than 40% disability will have 5% seats reserved for them (irrespective of the category they belong) in all the NIFT campuses

State Domicile

  • A certain number of seats will be reserved in some of the NIFT campuses for students belonging to the same state 

  • A total of 7 seats in campuses of NIFT like Kangra, Patna, Bhopal, Kannur, Bhubaneshwar, Shillong and Jodhpur will be reserved for candidates belonging to the states where the campuses are situated

  • NIFT Srinagar has 13 seats reserved for candidates belonging to the state of Jammu & Kashmir

If SC / ST / OBC seats remain unfilled at the end of the NIFT B.Des counselling sessions, do they offer these under the General category?

None of the NIFT seats remains vacant. The counselling process goes on until all the seats are filled with the corresponding category. Go through NIFT Counselling and NIFT Seat Matrix: Seat Allotment, Seat Reservation to understand the process better.
