NIFT 2021 Exam Pattern

Having a fair idea of NIFT Entrance Exam Pattern shall help candidates prepare and organise a preparation plan. It is imperative to go through the entire exam pattern to understand the NIFT exam structure. NIFT Entrance Exam 2021 is designed to evaluate the candidate’s skill, knowledge and aptitude of the candidates. 

NIFT admission 2021 is usually based on three rounds- CAT, GAT, Situation Test or GD/PI. The NIFT 2021 exam pattern comprises details related to the total number of questions, maximum marks, exam duration, sections, and more. Applicants have to first take the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT) and those who are shortlisted have to take the Situation Test (ST) or clear the GD/PI round.

Situation Test for B.Des

Candidates who clear the NIFT Written Exam for B.Des will have to register for the NIFT Situation Test. This test will assess the candidate on the basis of their material handling and innovative ability on a situation with a certain set of materials. 

Parameters on which the candidate will be evaluated are given below:

  • Space Visualization
  • Creative and innovative use of material given
  • Construction Skill
  • Composition of all the given elements
  • Colour Scheme
  • Finesse of the Model
  • Overall Presentation

The write-up should be in English and no marks should be given for write-up in any other language. The evaluation will be done on the spot by the jury.

NIFT Exam Pattern for GD/PI for All PG Programmes

The NIFT Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI) will be based on case studies. The GD will last for around 15 to 20 minutes of discussion around the assigned case study. Parameters on which candidates will be evaluated are as under:

  • Effective Communication
  • Leadership Qualities
  • Conceptual Clarity
  • Knowledge of the topic assigned
  • Personal solving approach
  • Interpersonal skills
  • The contribution made to the topic

For personal interview, candidates will be judged on the basis of the following:

Is there any difference between NIFT GAT for B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and M.F.M and NIFT GAT for other subjects.

Yes, the exam of NIFT GAT for the courses of B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and M.F.M is different from that of the other courses. The duration of this exam is 3 hours and it contains an extra section of 'Case Study'. The maximum marks for NIFT GAT for these programmes is 150.

Is CAT necessary for admission to B.F.Tech at NIFT?

No, if you are applying for the course of B.F.Tech, you will not have to appear for any other exam and you will be assessed on the basis of your performance in GAT itself.
