How to Apply for SAT 2020

The SAT is conducted at an international level for admissions to more than 6,000 schools and universities in the USA, Canada, UK, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia and many other countries. Some of these universities include Harvard University, Washington University, University of ChicagoUniversity of QueenslandUniversity of SydneyAston UniversityUniversity of Aberdeen to name a few. This exam is conducted by the College Board, an organization founded more than 100 years ago for evaluating a student’s readiness for college.

SAT is offered in October, December, March and May and the SAT Subject Tests can be taken in October, November, December, May and June. Deadlines expire at 11.59 PM, Eastern Time, US and there would be no late registration for international SAT testing. If a student wants to register online or through telephone, the same must be completed by the international deadlines. However, SAT 2020 Test schedule is updated due to the COVID 19 outbreak.

COVID 19 Alert

The SAT which was scheduled to be conducted in May and June was cancelled due to the COVID 19 pandemic. The next test will be held from August at various SAT centres across the country. As the SAT will be conducted at various centres, the priority of the College Board would be to ensure the health and safety of the student. The testing capacity is limited in some areas to maintain health restrictions. 

Any changes related to the SAT test like test date, test date, test centres will be informed to candidates prior to the test by the College Board to avoid confusion and stress.

Steps to Apply for the SAT

In order to register for the SAT, one can apply online and the steps to ensure a smooth application process have been provided below:

  • Visit the official website of the College Board.

  • Register yourself and sign in to your College Board account. Remember, your counsellor or parent cannot register for you. 

  • Provide all the required details like your full and legal name along with other identifying information. It should be exactly the same as in your photo ID.

  • If you want to answer other questions about yourself, then take the SAT student questionnaire. 

  • Sign up for the SAT with Essay if you need to. 

  • Upload a photo of yourself that meet specific requirements mentioned by the Board. 

  • Check out/Log out and print your Admission Ticket.

For candidates who Need to Register by Mail

This is required only if you are:

  • Requesting SAT Sunday testing for the first time.

  • Submitting the payment by check or money order (payable to "The College Board").

  • Younger than 13 years of age.

  • Registering through an SAT international representative.

  • Unable to upload a digital photo as part of the online registration process.

Students who need to mail a paper registration can follow the following procedure:

  • Ask your high school counsellor for the Student Registration Booklet for the SAT and SAT Subject Tests. 

  • All fields shaded in red and marked “Required” must be completed.

  • If you are looking for a fee waiver, include your fee waiver card with your mailed registration.

  • Mail your registration and payment which must be postmarked by the US deadlines. Your documents must be delivered by the deadline for international registration if you want to take the SAT outside the United States.

SAT Registration Photo Requirements

Your registration photo must meet the following conditions:

  • It must be a recent photo. 

  • It must be at least 2X2 inches and not more than 2.5X3 inches.

  • It must be clearly identifiable as you with a full-face view and must match your appearance on the day of the test. 

  • The photo must be taped over the barcode. It must be clear tape and one should not use staples, glue or paper clips. 

  • Write your name, date of birth and high school code on the back of the photo.
