UGC NET is a Computer-based examination, which is conducted for candidates who wish to apply for the posts of Assistant Professor or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). By taking UGC NET, candidates become eligible for Assistant Professor post both in Indian Universities and in Colleges. For UGC NET, candidates must have a Master’s Degree with prescribed percentage from UGC recognised universities/institutions to be eligible for the entrance exam. The examination is conducted twice a year. The main aim of conducting the exam is to focus on improving the overall quality of education. The exam is conducted in 83 subjects at 89 selected NET examination cities spread across the country.

UGC NET 2018 Eligibility Criteria

Taking the UGC NET examination is an important step if you aspire to become a Lecturer or carry out research work for an organisation. The exam is conducted to identify suitable candidates who can do well in research work or assistant professorship. In order to choose the most talented and brilliant candidates, an eligibility criterion has been prescribed by the exam conducting authority that applicants must fulfil before they take the entrance exam. The UGC NET 2018 eligibility criteria may include requirements related to educational qualification, age limit and other aspects.

For aspirants, it is a must to know that their eligibility will be defined as correct only after their confirmation of the Age Criteria and Educational Qualification. However, the factors for the applicants of JRF and Assistant Professor will categorically differ. Similarly, some relaxation has also been imposed for the reserved categories of the nation. The National testing Agency (NTA) has defined each criterion in detail, candidates can check out these details given below and see whether they fulfil these criteria.

The candidates willing to apply for the exam should be well aware of the following UGC NET eligibility criteria:

  • The candidate should have a Master’s degree with minimum 55% marks (without rounding off) from a UGC recognised university in any of the 100 subjects mentioned on the official website of CBSE UGC NET.

  • Students belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC/ PwD category are required to have at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree are eligible for the test.

  • Those who are appearing in the qualifying exam or waiting for the results can also apply. However, they are required to complete their PG within two years from the date of NET result.

  • The PhD degree holders who have completed their Master’s degree by September 19, 1991, will be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in the aggregate marks.

Junior Research Fellowship-

  • Candidate should not be more than 30 years of age.
  • There is a relaxation of 5 years for women applicants and the candidates belonging to SC/ST/ OBC and PwD category.
  • Candidates with research experience have been granted time relaxation for their research work on the subject related to their post-graduation course. 

Assistant Professor-

  • There is no upper age limit for the candidates applying for the post of assistant professor.
  • Minimum eligibility criteria will not be applicable for the candidates who have completed or are about to complete PhD.
  • Candidates with a passing certificate of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research - Junior Research Fellowship (CSIR JRF) or UGC JRF dated before 1989, need not appear for UGC NET 2018, as they can directly apply to any college or university all over India for the post of Assistant Professor.  
  • Candidates with the SET (States Eligibility Test) score are also exempted from appearing for UGC NET 2018. The only thing to keep in mind for such candidates is that, that the SET certificate dated before 1st June 2002 will allow them to apply for the Assistant Professor post in universities and colleges all over India but for the candidates with SET certificate dated after 1st June 2002 will be able to apply only to the institutions within the SET States only.

UGC NET 2018 Exam Pattern

UGC NET 2018 Exam Pattern defines the structure of the examination paper. The exam pattern generally includes the number of questions, types of questions (subjective or objective), number of sections, marks allotted to each section, the total number of marks, mode of examination, the language of the paper, time duration, etc. The exam pattern also consists of the marking scheme defined by the concerned authority.

The exam pattern of UGC NET 2018 has been revised and the upper age limit has also been relaxed. As per the changed UGC NET 2018 paper pattern, the exam will have two papers instead of three papers. Candidates are advised to go through the below-mentioned details for a clear understanding. 

  • The exam is conducted in Computer-based mode.
  • The test will consist of two papers and both the papers will have objective type questions.

  • The choice for the paper medium can be exercised at the time of filling the form. Candidates can choose either Hindi or English language.

  • The duration for Paper I is 1 hour.

  • Paper-I is of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It is primarily designed to test the reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. The paper consists of 50 objective type compulsory questions.

  • Paper-II has 100 objective type questions, which are based on the subject selected by the candidate.

UGC NET 2018 Syllabus

UGC NET 2018 is conducted for the candidates who wish to apply for the posts of Assistant Professor and/or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). UGC NET 2018 Syllabus defines the topics and subjects that the candidates must study well in order to score good marks in this national level competitive examination. UGC NET 2018 (December) Result

UGC NET 2018 December Result will be announced after the commencement of the December session which is about to start from 9th December and has been scheduled to end on 23rd December 2018. UGC NET 2018 (July) Result Announced

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has declared the complete UGC NET result online on its official website. More than 8,59,498 candidates took the exam. Out of this, 55,872 candidates cleared UGC NET examination. See the Complete Result of UGC NET (July) 2018.

The complete result was released recently by CBSE. It had the candidates' roll number, subject, category, marks in both the papers as overall marks. Also, the complete result has revealed whether a candidate has qualified NET or both Junior Research Fellowship and NET.

In order to qualify NET exam, candidates have to secure the minimum qualifying marks in both the papers. After the result declaration, CBSE prepares a merit list of all the selected candidates for the posts of Junior Research Fellows (JRF) and Assistant Professors.

The National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted to select candidates for the role of Assistant Professor and/ or Junior Research Fellowships (JRF). To check the result of UGC NET, candidates have to provide their Application Number, Roll Number, and Date of Birth.

UGC NET 2018 Selection Process

UGC NET 2018 is one of the most prestigious national-level examinations for the aspirants of teaching sector. The National Eligibility Test (NET) 2018 Selection Process includes different rounds of screening of candidates. The written test is one such round of the selection process. The Written test will be followed by the counselling round for the candidates who successfully clear the UGC NET 2018.

  • Candidates have to secure minimum marks in both the papers to be considered for the award of JRF and eligibility for Assistant Professor.

UGC NET counselling is held for the candidates who successfully clear the entrance exam.   • All the qualified candidates of UGC National Eligibility Test, willing to attend the counselling, have to visit the official website of UGC to check the rank-wise counselling dates.

  • While participating in UGC NET counselling, candidates have to submit the CBSE NET counselling Application and Original certificates.

  • To proceed further, qualified candidates also have to pay a processing fee to participate in counselling.

  • After making the payment, it is advisable that the candidates preserve the UGC NET counselling fee receipt safely for future reference.

UGC NET 2018 Cut-Off

UGC NET is conducted twice a year once in July and then in December. UGC NET 2018 Cut-Off for the July session was released by the CBSE, along with the result on 31st July 2018, on the official website.

UGC NET cut-off score for General category is 40% in Paper I and II while the cut-off for (OBC, SC, ST, and PwD) is 35 % in Paper I and II. NTA will decide the UGC NET cut-off score for each subject for the next session. The cut-off for the December 2018 session will be released by the National Testing Agency (NTA). NTA will be conducting the NET for the first time on behalf of the UGC at 91 selected cities. To register for the UGC NET 2018 December session, candidates can go on the official website and apply for the examination. However, the application process for the December session is now over. Since, it will be a computer-based test, a mock test link will be provided on the official website in November to give candidates an idea of the UGC NET 2018 Exam Pattern.

The exam is conducted for approx 100 subjects, whereas, earlier it was conducted for 84 subjects. UGC NET is held to shortlist eligible candidates for the post of Assistant Professor and for Junior Research Fellowship.

UGC NET 2018 Admit Card

The UGC NET 2018 Admit Card for December examination will be released on 19th November 2018. The National Eligibility Test (NET) is scheduled to be conducted from 9th to 23rd December for determining the eligibility of candidates as Assistant Professor and awarding Junior Research Fellowship Programme (JRF).

For downloading the UGC NET Admit Card, applicants need to visit the exam's official website and access the admit card by providing the required credentials.

The admit card will be issued to only those who successfully register for the exam by providing complete information in the registration form and pay the application fee within the stipulated time. As soon as candidates get access to their respective admit cards, they should cross-check all the details mentioned on them.

How to Apply for UGC NET 2018

The aspirants of UGC NET 2018, must know the process to apply for this national level examination. It is important to clearly understand how to apply for UGC NET 2018 as any mistake in the application process might debar candidates from sitting in the examination. The application process of UGC NET 2018 for December examination started on 1st September and ended on 30th September 2018. Authentication Process

Remember to cross-check the details mentioned before clicking on the submit button. Things that are to be filled in include –

  • Name of the Candidate

  • Gender

  • Date of Birth

  • State of Residence

  • Aadhaar Number

  • Security Pin flashing on the Screen.

Registration Process

In this step applicants of UGC NET 2018 need to register themselves for UGC NET in a separate online form. The form have credentials denoting the personal details of the candidates of the candidates which generally includes name of the candidate, candidate’s father’s name, mother’s name, date of birth, valid email address and mobile number. After filling these credentials candidates can submit it by clicking on the submit button given below the form. As soon as the form is submitted successfully, an Application Number will pop up on the computer screen for the candidates. This Application Number is to be recorded by the applicants for future references.

Filling the UGC NET 2018 Application Form

Candidates must fill complete information in the Application Form of UGC NET. These details include personal information, educational details, work experience (if any), residential details, etc. Details related to the UGC NET 2018 is also to be filled here. Candidates must specify the exam for which they are appearing Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or Assistant Professor. The residential detail includes the mailing address and the permanent address of the candidates. Documents linked to both the address must also be correctly mentioned and attached. In the block given for educational qualification, candidates must fill in the details of all the exams and degrees along with the marks and percentage as given in the marksheet attached with the form. Candidates will also be asked to fill the security pin already generated in the online form. Once all the details are entered correctly the candidates can go on clicking the ‘Next’ tab. This will take candidates to the next step of the Application Process.

Uploading Scanned Photograph and Signature

Candidates in this step needs to upload the documents that they must have got it scanned as per the prescribed description and specification. The file size of the photograph and the signature must not exceed as per the size issued by the exam conducting authority. Candidates must not exceed the file size or try uploading photographs and signatures of wrong format, as this might lead to discard the Application Process or even the cancellation of the Application Process. The Photograph must not be less than 10kb and more than 200kb, whereas, the Signature must be between 4kb to 30kb.

Pay the Examination Fee

After filling all the details correctly and successfully for UGC NET, the candidates have to select the option of payment for examination. The payment will be done through SBI_MOPS (Debit Card/ Credit Card/ Net Banking/ E-Challan of SBI). Candidates must most importantly remember to have access of excellent network connection while fill the Application Form and making the payment, as any server issue can result to failure of the Application Process. NTA is not to be held responsible for network problems or any other problem of this nature during submission of online Application or making the Payment. Lastly, the candidates will have to download the page that confirms the Application Process as a successful attempt. The confirmation page will be generated once the payment of the application process is done through a prescribed medium. As many as four to five printouts of the confirmation page must be taken by the candidates. Candidates must also know that this confirmation page is not to be sent to the exam conducting authority. This is a vital document that must accompany candidates at every stage of UGC NET 2018.

UGC NET 2018 Online Application Correction

National testing Agency (NTA) allows the UGC NET 2018 applicants to make relevant changes (if any) in the Application form that they submit in order to become eligible for the online examination. For UGC NET 2018 online application correction time slot was open for the candidates to make relevant changes. The form correction period started from 8th October and it ended on 14th October 2018. Candidates must know that this was the last opportunity for them to make adequate changes (if any) in the UGC NET 2018 Application Form, no more changes can now be made in the form submitted by the applicants. The correction process was possible only through online medium via the official website. Candidates must also know that no other means of application form correction was active by NTA for UGC NET 2018 December session.

Correction and Discrepancy in the Photograph and Signature

Candidates who submitted their Photograph and Signature in the wrong format are liable to make necessary changes. The correction window for candidates’ photograph and signature is open till 30th October 2018. Candidates can make required changes within the time period, as no changes shall be entertained after the last date is over. It is also important for applicants to know that what factors lead to the discrepancy of the scanned photographs and signature. Ignorance of these factors might lead to the rejection of the Application Form of the candidates. A list of parameters are considered to be important and are brought into notice when screening the photographs and signature of the applicants. Candidates must look at these parameters and get the necessary changes done before the last date of the correction window.

  • The signature must be in running handwriting instead of a capital letter or small letter format.

  • No fancy underlinings and circles must accompany the signature, as, such a signature is liable to get rejected.

  • Vertical Signatures and horizontal Photographs are not accepted.

  • Scanned copies in wrong dimensions will also be rejected by the concerned authorities.

  • The size of the scanned copy must not be less than 4kb for the Signature and 10kb in case of the Photograph of the candidates.

  • The scanning must be clear, visible and readable.

  • The photograph must be clear without any blurriness or hazy background.

  • The background of the image must not be too colorful or bright or dark. Scan an image that is in normal appearance with soothing background.

  • Photographs hiding the eyes of the candidates with sun glasses or aviators must be avoided.

  • Selfies are not acceptable in any condition.

  • Photographs with scenery or fancy background must not be uploaded.

  • Red-eyed photographs are not be uploaded.

  • Candidates must look straight in the scanned photograph.

UGC NET Conducting Body

The National testing Agency (NTA) will organise UGC NET in online mode from now on. Controlled and managed by Union Government of India, NTA has been constituted to hold national level entrance exams in the country.
