The medical aspirants of West Bengal are confused about the admission process for state level medical seats. The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEE) is planning to publish the results on August 27, 2016. However, the notification issued by Medical Council of India on August 5, 2016, stated that the results have to be published on August 17, 2016. The apparent violation of the MCI deadline by the state government is making students nervous about the admission process.

Suhantha Banerjee, Director of Medical Education, West Bengal mentioned that the regulation of MCI does not apply for the entrance tests conducted separately by state governments. The regulation applies only to those states who have decided to conduct admissions based on the NEET list. The government of West Bengal has conducted a separate admission test apart from NEET.

The notification of MCI indicates that the seats under All India Quota have to be filled by state medical colleges. However, there is no clarity whether this regulation applies to all the states or to the states which have decided to conduct admissions on NEET score. The NEET counselling for filling up all-India quota seats will commence from August 22, 2016. The counselling for filling up state level seats based on NEET will begin from September 3, 2016.
The medical aspirants of West Bengal are in fear that the Medical Council of India may cancel their admission if WBJEE does not comply with MCI regulation.
