Named after the most famous poet, scientist and statesman of the city, Johan Wolfgang von Goethe, Goethe University Frankfurt is situated in the metropolitan city of Frankfurt, Germany. The university was founded on 18th October 1914 as a “citizens’ university” and was financed by the wealthy citizens of the city. With over a century of its involvement in the higher education world, the university has affiliated 18 Nobel Laureates and 11 Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize winners. Currently, Goethe University Frankfurt has the third largest student population in Germany. With an experience of over a century in the field of education, the university has made sure to excel academically not in just theoretical aspects but also in practical aspects. The university is ranked among top 150 universities in the world and top 10 universities in Germany by the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities.
Infrastructure, Campus and Courses
Goethe University Frankfurt currently offers around 200 undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degree programmes through the 14 faculties it has. Every year approximately 50,000 students from all over the world and from Germany enrol themselves in these programmes which the Goethe University offers. In order to get admission in the courses offered by the university, students will have to prove their proficiency in English and/ or German language.
Goethe University has four campuses namely Niederrad, Riedberg, Bockenheim and Westend campuses which boasts of several establishments to make learning a never forgettable experience for the students. The location of each of these four campuses is pretty convenient and the facilities offered at these is none less than state-of-the-art facilities offered at other reputed institutions. Other than academic buildings, laboratories, lecture centres etc, the students can also choose to chill out at the cafes, restaurants and a beer garden.
Accomplishments and Alumni
At Goethe University, utmost impostance is being given to the achievements of the students who have graduated and reached the pinnacle of success in their respective fields. Many Goethe University alumni have been the recipients of prestigious awards such as Gotfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize, Nobel Prize among several other renowned recognitions. A total of 17 people belonging to the Goethe University community have been awarded the prestigious Nobel Prize, the last person to be awarded the same was Gunter Bloble in the year 1999. Another 12 were awarded the Wilhelm Leibniz Prize in which the winners receive a sum of € 2.5 million to continue their research work.
Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
Around 50,000 students from various parts of Germany and the globe take admission into the undergraduate, postghraduate and doctoral degree programmes offered at the Goethe University Frankfurt. Every year, out of the total number of students who takes admission at the University, around 15% are international students. The Goethe University Frankfurt has a student exchange programme in place with more than 700 institutes. The University campus always looks lively due to the variety of students, events, activities and educational opportunities.
