Changes Introduced in Gujarat 12th Exam Pattern

Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) introduced some changes in the Gujarat Board Class 12 Exam Pattern 2022-23. These changes are subject to the response against the uncertainties created by the two term exam pattern which was adopted in the academic year 2021-22, due to covid-19. The aforementioned exam pattern proved to be a fiasco as there were a lot of confusions at the end of the year while declaring the final result as to what should be the weightage of each term in the final result.

As per the new change, for the year 2022-23, GSEB has decided to return to its original exam pattern where the board exams will be conducted only once, at the end of the year on 100% syllabus. Read the following sections to get more insights on Gujarat class 12th exam pattern 2022-23.

Major Changes in Gujarat Class 12 Exam Pattern 2022-23

Some of the commendable changes that have been introduced by the GSEB in the Gujarat Class 12 Exam Pattern 2022-23 have been pointed out below:

  • Gujarat class 12 exams will be conducted at the end of the academic year on complete syllabus.
  • To ease out the stress, GSEB has also decided to reduce the syllabus for each subject by 20-30%.
  • Gujarat Class 12 question papers will be designed in a way to test the analytical thinking and problem solving abilities of the students.
  • The board has decided to introduce the competency based questions in the paper.
  • The maximum marks for a subject will be 100, out of which there will be a theory exam on 70 marks while 30 marks have been allotted for the internal assessment.
  • There will be an internal exam conducted in schools to determine the eligibility of the students for the written exam. It is mandatory for the students to pass the internal exam to be eligible for the written exam.
  • The internal exam will be conducted for 20 marks and the written exam will be conducted for 80 marks rather than 100 marks as earlier.
  • Question papers of Board examinations will have more questions based on real-life situations requiring students to apply, analyze, evaluate and synthesize information as per the stipulated outcomes.
  • The exam for vocational subjects will be conducted in February and the final board exam will be concluded by March in about 15 days.
  • Since the exams will be wrapped up early, the results are also likely to be released earlier than the regular schedule.

Why is GSEB Bringing These Changes?

The main reason why Gujarat Board is planning to bring these changes in GSEB Class 12 Exam Pattern 2022-23 is to discourage the students from rote learning the concepts. GSEB also aims to test the students on the basis of their reasoning ability and analytical skills rather than blind copy pasting of textbook concepts. The new changes are also aimed to generate a better result for the students and also improve the academic quality.
