Established in 1970, the Institute of Technology is commonly known as IT Sligo and is one of Irelands top-ranked third-level institutions for around 50 years. It was opened as a Regional Technical College and the first students graduated from Sligo RTC in 1986. Ever since its inception, the institute has been moulding the raw talent into industry-ready graduates. IT Sligo is a state-funded higher education institute situated in Sligo town of Ireland. With its student strength of over 6,000 students and 470 academic staff, the institute offers programmes in a number of areas.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The campus of the Institute of Technology Sligo (IT Sligo) is stretched over 72 acres of land. The postgraduate and undergraduate courses offered by IT Sligo are administered by the three schools and nine departments of the institute. From Science to Medicine, and Accounting to Engineering and Design, the institute caters to a number of areas of study. The tuition fee for UG and PG courses at IT Sligo for international students ranges from 10,500 to 11,500. The institute has also introduced 140 distance learning options and had more than 10,000 students enrolled in the programmes.
Accomplishments & Alumni
Many of IT Sligos over 35,000 alumni have had remarkable success in diverse fields such as engineering, design, IT, marketing, social sciences, accounting and finance, health, and many more. The institute has collaborated with Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT), Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT) to set up a Technological University for the West/North-West of Ireland. The "Team Hermes" at IT Sligo won the software design category of the 2011 Microsoft Imagine Cup held in 2011 in New York.

With its vibrant and diverse international student community and excellent student support, IT Sligo has been one of Irelands leading third-level institutions. All the courses offered at the institute have been designed keeping in mind the industry and workplace requirements. The online courses offered at IT Sligo has made it the No 1 destination for Digital (Online) Education in Ireland. The small class size of the institute benefits students as they get individual support and attention. The institutes close contacts and research partnerships with prominent organisations and employers give students the opportunity to find a wide range of jobs in their respective fields.
Covid-19 Response
IT Sligos Student Health Service is continuously preparing to welcome students back to college and ensure their health and safety. The institute is open to support both international and domestic students during these unprecedented times. It also reviews all of its activities to make sure that they are in line with the nationwide restrictions, as and when imposed.
Students should not attend any activity on campus and should contact their lecturer in case their campus attendance is required.
All Student Support Services are available remotely including Academic Support, Student Counselling and library and Health Services.
All on-campus examinations in the Knocknarea Arena have been cancelled until further notice.
In case prospective students have any doubts about admissions in 2021, they can contact the lecturer of the module first and then send their queries at admissions@itsligo.ie.
If students are not asked to return to campus, they must stay back at home and continue their studies online.
Fac-to-face learning would entail only practicals, workshops or studio workshops.
The Institute of Technology Sligo (IT Sligo) offers a number of scholarships to its students. International candidates can take a look at the scholarships mentioned below and apply for the ones that suit their preference.
Amount of Scholarship:
15% tuition fee scholarship for applicants from countries with a GDP of $10,000 (or less).
10% tuition fee scholarship for applicants from countries with a GDP of greater than $10,000 but less than $20,000.
Who Can Apply:
All new non-EU international students may apply depending on their country of origin.
Must have an offer to study a full-time on-campus programme at IT Sligo.
Must be subject to paying non-EU international tuition fees.
Must meet all admission requirements for the programme.
How to Apply:
No separate application is required.
Amount of Scholarship:
15% tuition fee scholarship for applicants from countries with a GDP of $10,000 (or less).
10% tuition fee scholarship for applicants from countries with a GDP of greater than $10,000 but less than $20,000.
Who Can Apply:
Must have been awarded the Country of Origin scholarship
Must successfully progress in their study programme with no less than 60% average in annual examinations.
Students who repeat attend or repeat exams only will not qualify for continuation of the scholarship.
If the student qualifies their repeat year, they may be granted the scholarship in subsequent years, only if their average is higher than 60%.
How to Apply:
No separate application is required.
Amount of Scholarship:
20% of the tuition fee for a postgraduate programme.
Who Can Apply:
Must be a non-EU International student who has graduated from an undergraduate programme and are progressing to a postgraduate programme at IT Sligo.
Must study a full time, on-campus postgraduate programme.
Must meet all admissions requirements for the programme.
Must be subject to paying non-EU international tuition fees.
Must not have been awarded the Country of Origin Scholarship.
How to Apply:
No separate application is required.
Amount of Scholarship:
Undergraduate: Up to 2500 for the 2021/22 Academic Year to 10 students
Postgraduate: Up to 2500 for the 2021/22 Academic Year to 4 students
Who Can Apply:
Must be a student from China.
For undergraduate applicants, they must have an offer to study an Honours Bachelors Degree in any full-time programme in the Faculties of Science and Business & Social Sciences or Engineering & Design.
For postgraduate applicants, they must have an offer to study MSc Bioprocessing Science.
Must not have been granted any other scholarship.
Must be subject to paying non-EU international tuition fees.

A separate application should be submitted on the Education Ireland website.
