Founded in 1869, the University of Otago is New Zealand's oldest university. Before being moved to the northern parts of the Geology Buildings and the Clocktower, the university was started on the site of John Wickliffe House in Princes Street. The university was set up by the University of Otago Ordinance of the Provincial Council in 1869. Otago is known as the number 1 university for educational performance. It has an unmatched record in the National Teaching Excellence Awards. It also has the highest possible rating in the QS global university performance ratings of 5 Stars Plus.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The University of Otago campus is located right in the centre of Dunedin, which is a city with a wide array of social, sporting and cultural opportunities. The university has a total of five campuses across New Zealand, namely, Dunedin, Southland, Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch. At Otago, the University Union is the heart of social life on campus along with facilities like bar and restaurant, food court cafe, and a clothing and gift shop. The University of Otago offers a number of Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral programmes in the diverse fields of Musical Arts, Social Work, Politics, Theology, Business, Science, etc.
