AICTE Approves B.Tech Course in AI, Data Science

Artificial Intelligence and Data Science courses have been gaining a lot of attention in recent years. This increase in demand has now led the AICTE to propose approval of B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. Many other changes have also been proposed by the AICTE Chairman.

AICTE B.Tech AI & Data Science Approval

With the growing trend and demand in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science programme in Indian engineering colleges, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has announced the proposal to approve of B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. The AICTE Chairman, Anil D Sahasrabuddhe.

The Education Promotion Society for India (EPSI) had organised a conference, where the AICTE Chairman took the opportunity to announce the news. He added that a committee had been formed with the objective of evaluating the desirability of certain programmes in technologies. The committee had decided that a degree course needed to be approved in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

Mr Sahasrabudhe stated that among the subjects that had been shortlisted for the purpose, Internet of Things (IoT), Cyber Security and Blockchain had also been considered. The committee, however, decided that there is no full-fledged degree in the topics in the engineering colleges of India. Nonetheless, they added that the courses can be granted as specialisations to the aspirants.

The conference also saw the mention of different initiatives being undertaken by AICTE to boost the overall performance in technical education. For the purpose, a semester-long programme has been launched for faculty members, which is a compulsory programme for all new joiners. He added that the programme will not only b important to aspiring engineering teachers but also to those who wish to pursue a promotion as well.

Mr Anil Sahasrabudhe also announced that a meeting will be conducted on 20th September 2019. The meeting is being held for the purpose of deciding to reward graded autonomy to certain institutions who pass specific criteria in excellence. Post-meeting, the proposal will be implemented.
