The move will ensure impersonation-free examinations for four lakh engineering students in the 400 odd colleges of Uttar Pradesh. Students appearing for the semester examination will fill in a verification card at the time of examination. On the verification card, students will have to fill the following details:
- Roll number
- Question paper code
- Answer copy number
The University has had bitter experiences of handling impersonation in the past. Last year, bundles of filled in answer copies were found with a scrap dealer in abundance. These copies belonged to students of Babu Banarasi Das National Institute of Technology and Management for the following courses:
- Electronics and communication engineering
- Mechanical engineering
- Computer science engineering
The copies found were not evaluated, whereas the marks of the same, were sent beforehand to the university. Two consecutive question papers were leaked in the semester exams held during June 2015.

During the evaluation process, verification cards received from all examinees will be matched with the previously recorded details. JP Pandey, the Controller of Examinations (CoE), said that the move would serve a dual purpose. First, if a student by chance makes a mistake, it will come to their knowledge. Second, there will be no chances of any kind of impersonation. These measures are being taken for first-year students so that it keeps them away from selective study. The move will also help the colleges in removing mismatching of the answer copies of a subject with other subjects.
Additionally, the CoE also revealed that there will be minor changes in the question paper pattern of the upcoming examinations.
