AMU has declared a new schedule for the Student Union elections after witnessing strong protests by students. The students had asked the administration to conduct the polls according to the original schedule, i.e. on September 26.
According to a notification released by the college, the polling will be done on October 8. September 29 is the last date for filing nominations.
Initially, the elections were schooled to be held on September 26. The university canceled it later saying that the candidates were violating the rules and conduct of elections.
As a result, various students along with a candidate of the elections staged a protest sit-in outside the Vice Chancellor's residence asking for the polls to be conducted on the scheduled date.
A spokesperson amongst the protesting students said that the students may accept the new schedule for the student Union Poll but are not in agreement with the university on their decisions of filing fresh nominations.
