Tamil Nadu has over 500 academic colleges, Physical Education colleges, and schools for the training of teachers. These colleges offer several courses of undergraduate and postgraduate level. A ‘Fees Fixing Council’ has been functioning to regulate and assess the academic fee that is charged by private colleges. This council is headed by Justice N.V. Balasubramanian and it had decided upon the fees structure in the year 2016. The formerly decided structure is coming to a close this year so the council held a meeting to formulate a new fee structure. This structure will be valid for the upcoming three academic years, from 2019-2020 to 2021-2022.

Letters have been sent to the administrators and principals of these private colleges, asking them to furnish full details of the estimated fee structure, the infrastructure facilities and the courses offered. These reports that are to be submitted by the principals will be scrutinized and the new fee structure will be decided based on the facilities of infrastructure, laboratories, construction etc. that each college provides.
