CBSE Exams 2026 Sectional Changes Introduced in Science and Social SubjectsCBSE Exams 2026 Sectional Changes Introduced in Science and Social Subjects : The Central Board of Secondary Education has announced significant changes to the Class 10 Question Paper Format 2026 for Science and Social Science to improve evaluation quality. The Science paper will now be divided into three sections: Section A (Biology), Section B (Chemistry), and Section C (Physics). Similarly, the Social Science paper will be split into four sections: Section A (History), Section B (Geography), Section C (Political Science), and Section D (Economics). Initially, there were no section-wise questions for both subjects; questions appeared from all these sections in a jumbled manner.
The revised structure emphasizes competency-based questions, with 50% of the paper focusing on assessing students' conceptual clarity and application skills. The remaining 50% will comprise select-response questions (20%) and constructed-response questions (30%). Previously, the competency-based questions were limited, but now, 50% of the paper will consist of competency-based questions. This shift aims to evaluate students' understanding and ability to apply concepts rather than just recalling information.
These changes align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 recommendations, aiming to make assessments more comprehensive and student-friendly. The CBSE has also introduced changes to the Class 10 and 12 paper structure, focusing on evaluating students' understanding and application skills.
The new format is expected to benefit students by providing a more nuanced assessment of their knowledge and skills. The CBSE has also announced the exam schedule, with Class 10 Mathematics Standard and Mathematics Basic papers scheduled for the first day, and Class 12 exams beginning with Biotechnology, Entrepreneurship, and Shorthand (in both Hindi and English). These changes demonstrate the CBSE's commitment to improving the evaluation process and preparing students for future challenges.
