Three lakh college students (first-year) in Gujarat will soon get Tablet Computers – Namo E-Tab for a minimal cost of Rs. 1,000. Chief Minister of Gujarat, Mr. Vijay Rupani revealed that the Rs. 11,000 worth E-Tab would be provided to students at a minimal cost of Rs. 1,000. The state government has continued the scheme of providing Namo E-Tab at a minimal cost for the second consecutive year. The government is intended to continue this scheme every year, he added.
CM of Gujarat stated that the government would receive approximately Rs. 30 crores from students in the form of a token fee of Rs. 1,000 collected for distributing Namo E-Tab. The government will utilise Rs. 30 crores for providing WiFi and Internet connectivity to libraries and college campuses for the benefit of students. On November 03, 2018, Namo E-Tabs were distributed to Gujarat Technological University and Gujarat University students. The distribution of E-Tabs for other college students will be initiated in a phased manner.
The Namo E-Tabs and internet connectivity will help the students to enhance their knowledge and connect to the world. This year, the state government earmarked Rs. 300 crore for distributing Namo E-Tabs to college students. Last year, Rs. 250 crore was utilised for this purpose.
Principal Secretary to Higher and Technical Education (Gujarat), Anju Sharma revealed that the Namo E-Tabs would have 450 in-built lecture videos, 110 virtual course materials, and 46-course material videos as per the syllabus. Adding further, Anju Sharma stated that the e-tabs offered to students are of better quality with latest features and specifications.
Namo E-Tabs have 4G technology1 16 GB Memory, 5 MP Back Camera, 2 MP Front Camera, Dual SIM option and 2GB RAM. Compared to last year, Namo E-Tabs distributed this year have enhanced features.
